I'm new to reloading, and after having read several different reloading manuals I decided to have a go at my first job. I've got about 125 .223 cases which have been fired once (in my AR). These are all LC-08 cases and I've cleaned, sized, decapped and reamed out the crimp. My next step was to measure every case which I did with a good micrometer. I set aside anything over 1.76" for trimming and left the others as is. The caes which I don't intend to trim are from 1.750" to 1.759". I intend to trim the cases that are 1.76' and over using a Lee "go or no go" length guage which has a "trim to" length of 1.75". My main question is should I do it this way, or should I trim the whole batch of cases to 1.75"? After reading the manuals I surmised that if I seated the bullet to the proper overall length I would have variation in distance between the bottom of the bullet and the top of the powder charge with the varying case lengths which could cause inaccuracy. Would this be so, or am I thinking wrong here?
Also, is there a minimul length for the cases? And, if I don't trim all the cases, should I still bevel the opening to aid in bullet seating. Standing by with trimmer in hand for your input. |
