| Just got an Austin and Halleck inline .50 on a trade deal. I like to cast my own bullets, and was wondering if anyone can suggest what type of mold to get for it. Thanks! |

I got a Lee Modern Minneball mold for my .54 cal inline. I get a lot of leading and loss of accuracy when I use maximum chargers with it. I think it is probably due to the thin skirt design of the minnie ball.
I'm going to drop my powder charge down and see how it does. Also I think I'll order the Lee R.E.A.L bullet mold. |

If it has a fast twist, then I would look at something in the 350-450 grains range. I shoot Hornady 385 grain Great Plains in my Traditions Pursuit with good results. IT DOES work on elk too!!! Big thing to remember with big cast bullets in muzzle loaders is moderation in the powder. My load only consists of 90 grains of 2f, and it pushed the above bullet through both shoulds of a 600 lb elk last year.
Good luck!! |
