A couple of years back I bought a Century Arms G3 clone (drum rear sight- not the CETME version) that came with a couple of aluminum 20 round mags.  They function fine etc...recently I decided to buy some more 20 rnd mags (both aluminum and steel versions) to add to the collection.  Unfortunately when I try to insert them into the mag well I can't fully seat them.  WTF over?!?!

The mags that won't seat fully are marked either "HK" and a date (month/year), or "G3 HK" and a date(month/year) or "G3" with a bullseye symble and date(month/year).  The two mags that came with the clone are also marked "G3 HK" and a date + a 13 digit number ?!?!?

I assume that the issue is the Century receiver and not all these mags....am I correct?  Anyone else have any problems/experience with there Century G3 clone and mags??  Am I stuck with just two mags for this weapon or what?  Any ideas/help?  Thanks

If I had to guess I would think that maybe Century did some mods to the mag to make them fit.

Agree that the most likely source fo your out-of-spec problem is the receiver.  The good news is that it is mild steel and a hammer, pliers and some punches work great for reshaping the magwell.

Also, are you trying to seat a fully loaded mag with the bolt carrier forward?  That is often difficult even on real HK rifles.  The proper manual of arms is to retract the charging handle into the retention slot, seat the fresh, full magazine and slap the charging handle downward to chamber a round.

Ditto trying to seat it with the bolt locked back.

I have a Century G3 and I have bought numerous Aluminum mags and they all fit/function 100% when inserted with the bolt back.

Also - My G3 clone is the most accurate Mil Surp. rifle I have.

The mags were all empty and I tried bolt carrier forward and locked open.  No go for either with all but the Century aluminum mags.  I've never had to try and reshape a receiver or mags.  Would it be easier to try and "reshape" the magwell or the magazines that don't fit??

Thanks for all the responses.  It appears that I just ended up with an out of spec clone receiver.  Too bad I waited so long before I bought other mags to try.

Take a mag that you don't particularly care about and cover every square millimeter of it that goes into the magwell with a black Sharpie marker.  Try to seat the mag several times and then look for wear/shiny spots where the marker rubbed off.  There's your "high spots" that might need to be addressed.  Most likely it's a gun problem and not the mags, so I would fix the gun.

On one rifle I had to reshape the magwell a bit and on another I had to file a wee bit on the "tit" on the lower rear of the barrel trunion, on which the magazine pivots.

Thanks for the tips.  I'll try that and see if I can correct the problem.

Thanks again.

Yes - always mod the cheapest parts first and check the fit/function, in this case the mag obviously.
I may have missed it, but is your Century stamped or cast receiver?

I believe that it is stamped.  I'll dig it back out of the safe tomorrow and take another look.  Honestly I didn't really notice....not sure if I could tell the difference anyway.  I'm an AR guy and this was just something different to add to the collection.  Is there an easy way to tell if it is cast or stamped?
