Is the cheapest M1A from Springfield Armory going to be around the $1,500 range? That is the price I see most of them close to on Impact Guns. Is there any place I can get one cheaper with the same quality? Thanks.

www.forthehunt.com

Do a search and see what the online dealers are asking for new rifles.  Figure that you will need to pay for shipping, and a FFL transfer fee ($20.) over the cost.   You can do a FFL search on the site to see who is the cheapist/closeist FFL to you.

The basic rifle runs around $1000 depending on the stock, and goes up from there.

Impact has a Standard with synthetic stock listed for $1229 and Walnut stock for $1249.

You might also start watching the For Sale forums on the dedicated M14/M1A boards and see what comes up. I have seen some really good deals but you ad better be fast with the cash, those guys don't mess around and post questions like "Is this worth it"

What makes the two guns Karsten listed "California Legal"? Also, what does it mean where it says that the stock is "Blued"? Thank you for the feedback so far.

Tyler,

i didn't see that when I posted the links. The Black Synthetic stocked M1A has a Flash Hider and a 20 round magazine.......Both are a no no in the PRK.

The Walnut stocked M1A is equipped with the SA Muzzle Break and a 10 round magazine. Those two changes make the rifle friendlier a greatly reduce the risk of the rifle going off and starting a shooting spree if it is having a bad day........Or so the PRK All Mighty seem to think.

I am sure Impact has a Walnut Stocked Standard in stock, call Allen at 801-393-2474.

Here are a couple more you might want to take a look at.

Watch this one to the very end and if no one bids place a bid at the last minute for the Minimum starting price of $1100.00. That is what the guy did I bought mine from a few years back Placed the min bid and no one else bid against him. Then he decided he didn't like the M1A to start with.

Here are a couple you can just buy and be done with.

Black Synthetic stock wouldn't be my 1st choice but the stocks are easily switched out and upgraded.

there used to be a fiberglass stocked one that was under $ 1k, but I haven't checked in ages.

I was looking for getting a Walnut stock. Something close to what the military uses today with their M14's.

It is my understanding that any of the M14 in the Sand box at present are mostly USGI Synthetics. The wood stocks have sat around so long they have dried out and are cracking from use. I have sent a bunch of Synthetic stocks over with the help of Fred's M14 stocks and Americansniper.com.

I am presently doing 2 more synthetic stocks for guys that are in need over there now.

You can get a nice USGI Walnut or Birch stock and like new HG from Fred's M14 stocks rather than a Boyd's stock from SA.

Do you know where to get the olive colored stocks that they use in the Sand Box?

Krylon Camo Paint in a spray can at Wally World for $2.37 a can.

So if I wanted to paint it that olive color, I would be better off getting a synthetic stock? What are the advantages and disadvantages of a synthetic stock versus a walnut stock?

You should strip the black krinkle finish off completely as it is a bad surface to paint. It flakes rather easily from just slight use.

Most claim better accuracy with the synthetic stock over the Walnut/Birch. Wood can/will expand, swell, contract and vary in stability where the synthetic wont.

The synthetic stock is also lighter in wieght.

If you don't like the rubber butt pad you can always replace it with a USGI flip up metal bbutt plate also.
