I need something faster than I can save up the bucks for a good unit for a hog hunt in 2 weeks. I have an ATN NVM-14 "Gen 4" unit that I absolutely love. That said, with it's less than standard mounting system I need to buy one of their goggle kits and that is cutting into my laser fund for now. So, point me in the right direction guys!

People seem to have good luck with the cheap lasermax units.

I have a Lasermax IR on a 22/45. The switch kinda sucks and it has a tendency to change to the blink setting. It was also a PITA to zero, but it works. I would go with an OTAL. It is better in every way if it's going on a rifle.

I want a fucking IR ITAL so bad right now but they have become impossible to find

Yup, Lasermax is the cheapest to get ya started, ive been running this setup for a while, way back when, yes it is a pita to zero,  but if you have a nv compatible rds it makes it easier to get started looking thru the nods at rds and stacking the ir beam.  I kept notes as which direction of adjustment screw moves poi to make things easier, although I have never really had to rezero.  I've only experienced the blinkies when the cell get low.  There is always better out there but on a budget the lasermax will definitely get you started.

The holosun looks pretty decent for the price, kinda looks like ths usn triad, I 'm sure thats been discussed already somewheres.  I do like that the two beams are slaved.

I need to buy 5 cheapies (I'd put them on my "non NVG" longarms, for gits and shiggles) now that I think about it.

Ugh.

They are way overpriced compared known quality versions IMO.

Laser max is cheap and the Crimson Trace micro unit has a better dot and seems a little more durable than the laser max.

Check optics planet and DVOR, they are putting them on sale pretty often.

I would steer away from the lasermax. It's annoying at best to zero with that needle-thin Allen wrench and I could not get it to reliably stay out of "strobe" mode. I would spend a little more and get an OTAL. Then you can zero without tools and it'll be built like a tank.

Buy once, Cry once.

I agree with this, but its nice to have a few of those cheap laser max units to toss on 22's or other cheap rifles.

Does ultimate night vision rent lasers? I know they rent i2 and thermal optics and sights and you can apply the rental fee towards the purchase of a device later.  Might be an option.

I may suggest the Steiner OTAL IR versions. We just sold a boat load of these at the $399.00 price point and that price is now set from $524.00. These are probably the most robust system out there and for holding zero...Just saying.

I didn't even notice they were cheaper when I posted the link. They are much better built than the PAQ-4 I was issued.

I want one of those too, inline just makes more sense to me. I've been thinking about trying the lasermax whenever I get goggles just to see how it goes.

Here you go. Only $28, and the best part...it's from China! So you know it's got to be "cheap!" Just what you asked for.

"New Tactical Hunting Green 623nm 5mw Infrared IR Dot Laser Sight For Rifle Scope"

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Tactical-Hunting-Green-623nm-5mw-Infrared-IR-Dot-Laser-Sight-For-Rifle-Scope-/252466000085

Hmmmmmmmm. Upon reading the description of the 5 mw Infrared IR Dot Laser Sight, it doesn't say anything about an Infrared dot laser. I wonder why that is? Oh, that's OK, it's from China.

Weird, 623nm should be reddish...but at least you should see that you're shooting your eye out

The next shipment should be September (that what I am told from my main source over at Steiner). We cleaned them out on the last bash 45 days ago.

does anyone make aftermarket mounts for the OTAL?

like one that turns it into an ITAL?

or at least get it sitting down a little lower

All kidding aside, i suspect 623nm is a typo, since that isnt a common wavelength at all, and that it should read "532nm" which would be a a dpss green laser.
But dpss green start with a 808nm (IR) laser that gets its wavelenth increased, and then cut in order to produce the green. Quality dpss have filters to remove the excess IR (it takes about 10-20mw IR to make 5mw of green), but these cheaper dpss usually have a lot of excess IR come through. Typically, a IR pass filter can remove the green and leave only the residual IR. I had a thread about it a while back.

I use the lasermax BTW.
