FedEx should be dropping off my powder tomorrow, so I'll be ready to load my first rifle rounds.
Rifle will be an AR, 18" 1-7 twist SS barrel. Maybe try the new suppressor on it. Here is the plan: Brass is all slightly under-spec. Most measure out to around 1.740" Sized according to Wilson Case Gauge Winchester Small Rifle Primer, target depth .004" Hornaday 55 gr FMJBT Seat mid-cantalure, about 2.220" Crimp (as per thread yesterday, got my dies dialed in on dummy rounds) Powder charge as follows, H335: - 24.5 gr (5 rounds) - 25.0 gr (5 rounds) - 25.5 gr (5 rounds) - 26.0 gr (5 rounds) - 26.5 gr (5 rounds) Any comments? |

Looks like you have been listening. Remember to shoot groups as you work up so you will know what your rifle likes best. I would expect it to like the 25.0 or 25.5 gr load. With the primers, as long as they are below flush, you will be fine. The way I do this is tilt cases and look over the primer and you should see a little of the back side of the primer pocket. A sliver of brass, like the case the pistol pointer is indicating. |

Wow, that brings back memories of my first .223 reload. Your plan is very similar to what my very first .223 reloads were. I used Lake City once fired brass I had been saving for years. My brass was all 1.755" - 1.763". I trimmed the longer ones to 1.759. I use H-335 as well, starting with 5 rounds of each in .5 grain increments at 24.5 grains and stopping at 26.0 grains. I used CCI Military Small Rifle Primers. Good luck man. |
| I don't get to go shooting as often as I would like, so when I build ladder loads, I load in smaller increments. That way if 25.3gr shows better grouping than 25.0gr or 25.5gr, I don't have to go back and try to dial it in further. Just a suggestion, but your plan looks solid. Keep good records! |
