I was kind of curious to find out how many rounds it would take before my AR started to malfunction. I cleaned and oiled it with CLP, and let it rip. I fired 635 rounds before I had the first malfunction. And that was a failure to feed. I attribute that to the nasty tarlike goo that the carrier was riding in. I guess that they will work for a long time without cleaning. Some of the other people who were at the range thought I was kinda nuts. You should have seen the look on their faces when they seen the brass pile.

Sounds like you have over lubed your weapon. I have fired 2 THOUSAND without ANY malfunction in my Bushmaster. Then I cleaned the Weapon ! Wasn't too dirty either as I use lube spairingly and only on parts that need it.

How much lube and what kind of ammo?  It does sound like there was too much CLP in the action.

I put about 3 drops on the carrier "rails", and a couple drops in the cam pin slot. I didn't wipe any off, which may be why it crudded up like it did. The ammo used was some handloads I made using BLC-(2) and 55 gr. FMJs. I guess I will need to try this again, only this time using less CLP. In any event, I have total confidence in this rifle, and normally do not subject it to this type of use/abuse. Its nice to know what it can go through before giving any problems.

Next time you do that... get someone to take a picture of you shooting it, and show the brass pile next to you. That'd make a good one to show the anti's.

Also, it would be worth your while to get pictures of people's reactions to the brass-hill... but that might be harder to do.

Also, you should put all rounds on paper next time so you can show off your 635 round group.
