I got to pick up my Griffin Checkmate .22 suppressor tonight.
Pretty quick turn around, even with a few speed bumps. My dealer gave me an envelope addressed to WV, not Atlanta. Since it was an individual paper Form 4, and almost everyone uses trusts these days, I guess they were confused! Anyway, mailed it in to WV the first week of May. ATF cashed the check 1 June. Approved 7/17, even with a week's delay in June by an ATF "legal review" of all CT transfers. Got it home, and shot 10 rounds of sub sonic. A bit louder then I expected (especially the first shot), but since I was shooting into the ground in front of my, some of that may be bullet strike on the dirt. Tomorrow, I will pop the .22 kit into the AR, and try the suppressor on a rifle. |

Congratulations!!! Did you get the QD model? Yes! It was the QD feature that made me choose this suppressor. What hosts will you swap between? Well unfortunately for me, I live in CT. With our wonderful new AWB, threaded barrels are NG on pistols, and are only allowed on semi rifles if that is the only banned feature. That being said, we do have a pre-ban exemption (for now), so my 1980's vintage Ruger MKII bull barrel is the only handgun I have to use the Checkmate on. I have a F/A AR15 conversion I can use it on with a .22 kit, as well as a preban Eagle Arms AR. In the past, I have screwed my .45 MAC can on my M16 with the short barrel, and it worked quite well (if a little heavy). Since the Checkmate is F/A rated, it seemed like a good choice. Although, I might spring for the $40 threaded end cap the Griffin offers. I don't know if I can screw the QD adapter on the barrel tight enough to keep it from shaking loose during mag dumps! I also have a couple of projects with tube fed .22 rifles (which is why I wanted a QD suppressor). But the great thing about buying a suppressor is, you get to buy firearms to go with it. So a Ruger 10/22 with a threaded barrel is in my future, and maybe a bolt action Savage or Ruger American Rifle. |

Mine is QD and it's one of the first 100 checkmates built. I have run thousands of rounds through mine on my M-16 with a 22 upper and I damaged the monocore after going too many rounds between cleaning. I locktited the 3 lug on and it's never worked loose. Mine does not have a monocore, but has baffles. Wonder if there is any difference in sound reduction? That is what I need to do, build a dedicated .22 upper, and locktite the 3 lug on. That, or I can just spend the $40 on the thread mount rear cap. |

Quoted: Been shooting this can a bit, all from my Ruger MKII. I don't know, it just sounds a bit loud, with all sub sonic ammo, compared to my experience with other cans. Kind of like a nail gun. Still need to try it on a rifle. Need that Savage, or Ruger bolt gun! Mine is similar on pistols as well. I use it exclusively on a bolt action rifle and it sounds really good. |

I kind of expected a bit more reduction out of it. I am not a big silencer guy (the only other can I own is a 1980's .45 SWD can for my F/A MAC), but I have been around a lot of them. From all the good reviews I have seen, I surprised it is as loud as it is.
Need try it on the AR with the .22 kit (have to break a FH loose to install the Checkmate). I want to pick up a Savage or Ruger bolt gun, just for the can! |

Well, screwed the three lug adapter onto my 10.5" AR upper, and shot 10 rounds thru the Checkmate. Now that is more like it. My wife was standing next to me, and said it sounded like a pellet gun. The sound of the hammer and springs was as load as the suppressor. |
