I have never heard much about these weapons. What makes them different from the Russian ones? were they good guns? Same 7.62x25 caliber? I see Russian PPSh Parts kits occasionally but have never seen or heard of chinese ones.

The Chicoms made alot of Russian military weapons under contract with the Russian army. These are refered to Sino-Soviet weapons. They made Mosin Nagant rifles, SKS, PPshs, AKs, RPKs, RPDs, RPG ect.. and I'm shure others as well.

SKS, too.

I've seen weapons built with those parts kits before.

They are always rather expensive, for what you are getting.

The biggest problems is all the work that has to be done... the bolt has to be altered severely, the fire control groups has to be totally redone, and a number of parts have to be added. All to make it legal.

The originals fire from an open bolt, and have a fixed firing pin. The have to machine a firing pin channel into the bolt, add a firing pin, and create a method for retaining the firing pin inside the bolt. Since the old trigger mechanism was only made to catch and release the bolt, it has no hammer to strike the firing pin. That has to be completely redone, an entire new FCG. The originals have a barrel that is too short, so even a new barrel is required, or an attachment must bring it up to the required length, or it has to be registered as a SBR (which is an additional cost).

Basically, don't think of it as building a rifle from a parts kit... think of it as having a rifle custom built, with a few surplus parts thrown in. Quite honestly... I can't think of a part that wouldn't need to be replaced or modified...

Poland, and N. Korea also built PPsh-41s.  Are you wanting a transferable MG, or a semi-auto?  Transferables are going for around 18k, and the Military Gun Supply semis are around $800.

Thanks for the responses. I guess that clarifies why I never see parts kits.

Really I am not in a position to purchase a transferable or a semi at this point, I just have an interest in this type of weapon. Have always been a fan of the ppsh 41 and had never heard of the chinese copy, i thought they just used russian ones.

I looked it up and saw they are called type 50s. I know Chinese AKs are often times considered to be of very high quality, but I'm guessing chinese manufacturing at that time might have left something to be desired

When it comes to a PPSh41.... they really can't do it wrong. It is some stamped sheet metal, some spot welding, and a few pieces of roughly machined steel... they would have to make an effort to do it wrong.
