| Are the chambers on the new M1A national match rifles chrome lined? |
| If whoever chromed the barrel did it with the same precision as a quality barrel maker uses when cutting a barrel, there's nothing wrong with chrome lining. There aren't many folks who spend the time and money to achieve that precision. Another problem is when you get to the end of life in the barrel, the speed at which your groups open up is much more pronounced then a non-lined barrel. |

You don't want one of the SA NM barrels!!!!
The days of them reaming the throat lead for a specific bullet design are long gone, and now they ream everything standard chamber. The problem with this is when loading long Ogive bullet out of the mag (168 and such), you have a long jump to lands, causes problems with Boat Tale bullets grouping well. As for chrome lined barrels, the plating is not a precise in thickness as it need to be, and you end up with deviations in the lands and grooves down the bore. A broach cut barrel is going to last around 4K rounds before it just stops tack driving one day and needs to be replaced). A button rifled barrel is going to print about the same distance in rounds, but will slowly open up the groups to about the 8K marks before you call the barrel toasted for NM work and needs to be replaced. A Chrome lined barrel will last 20K rounds +, but you are never going to get the same sub MOA you would with the above barrels. And if you are wondering, Yes broach cut barrels are the most accurate. |
