What kind of accuracy can somebody expect from a M1A with a USGI chrome lined barrel? Assuming the TE and ME gauge almost new.
I guess what I'm getting at, is there much of a difference between a USGI NM and a regular USGI barrel? If not, then the chrome lined seems to be the way to go. Thanks for any replies. |

In a non-Match conditioned (National Match) service grade rifle you'll notice no difference.
The only place you'd notice any difference between a standard barrel and a chrome lined is in an accuracy-built rifle we're you're trying to squeeze that last bit of accuracy out. So, unless you compare accuracy between a GI chrome lined barrel and a non-chrome lined Match barrel in a Match rifle, you'll see no difference worth mentioning. |

My Norinco's chrome bore with untold number's of rounds and nothing more than proper care and maintance. Has consistantly produced 1.5 moa accuracy with 168 grain bullet's over 41.5 grains of IMR4895 lit off with winchester primer's. Not "sniper grade" accuracy. But don't get within 500 yards of me accurate |

My M14 is a Springfield "loaded" package. It has a "national match" barrel that not chrome lined and I can shoot just under 1 " with match ammo.
I have a buddy with a pre-ban "stock" GI model M1A. His chrome lined bore will shoot with mine any day. Only real difference is his will still be shooting the same group after 5K rounds and I will be looking for a new barrel. In fact , seeing how good his M1A shoots is what caused me to buy one. |

I had a April 61 date winchester chrome lined barrel that was a real shooter. It was more accurate than a comercial springfield standard wieght NM barrel.
I have, and had several GI contract, and commercial NM barrels in all three wieghts. I personally like the GI contract barrels myself, but, if I had to admit it, I think the best shooting barrel I've had was a full heavy barnett. I'm not a fan of full heavy barrels, but that one shot very well. I didnt keep it long. I bought a non factory super match type build, and parts it down, and rebuilt it with a GI SAK standard wieght NM barrel. Here 's the thing, If you have a chrome lined GI barrel in good shape, and have NM mods to your flash suppresor, and gas system, op-rod spring guide, in a tight fitting stock, it should shoot plenty good enough. AND, the barrel will last a good long time. A match barrel has a limited life span compaired to a GI chrome lined barrel. Dont quote me on this, but I have heard that GI CL m14 barrels are expected to last 20K+ round life span. |
