Mods, feel free to move this to a different forum if you think it'd be more appropriate.

Recently purchased a Cimarron Model P and I'd like to replace the two-position safety base pin with a standard one. Ordered a Colt base pin but it measures 0.2515" vs. 0.2495 for the original. Does anyone know where I can get a proper diameter pin, and not a Belt Mountain? Cimarron does not have them. Brownells is out of stock on the Uberti part, as is Numrich.

Thanks in advance.

With a little patience and a drill press you could file the larger pin down to fit. I would start at the rear end closest to the hammer. Using a medium speed, take a little metal off the first 3/4 of an inch. Try fit it in the frame FREQUENTLY!!. When you get it down to the right diameter, move a little farther up the pin and repeat till the pin will go completely into the receiver as designed. Re-blue the pin with cold blue and you are good to go. Or if you  or a friend has a lathe.............

I don't have a whole lot of patience, so...

I took the Colt pin and chucked the head into my cordless drill. Battery is flat on the bottom so I was able to keep it steady on my bench. Started out with 230 grit sandpaper until I got the diameter down a bit, then polished it up a bit with 600, 800 wet, and 1,000 wet. Finished it off with four coats of cold blue. Looks pretty good, actually. End measures 0.2505 and the rest about 0.2510. Fits great in the frame and the cylinder bushing. No binding inserting, removing, or rotation.

I'd still like to find a pre-made one though...

Makes you feel good when you step a little bit out of your zone and do something for yourself. Congrats. Probably not that different than how they did things a hundred years ago at the factory other than using steam or water power

When the original 2 position safety base pin is inserted all the way into the frame (the “safety” position) does the end of the pin you see (in front of the cylinder) then have the same appearance as a standard base pin?

If that is the case then cut off enough of the pin's length so you can insert it to the second position and do away with the “safety” protrusion into the frame/hammer area.

Got what I needed from Peacemaker Specialists, although my home "smithed" Colt pin works just fine.
