For the most part Cold Steel is good to go, if your requirements are big tough and bullet proof. I prefer crkt and benchmade for sub 4" folders. I have carried a Recon 1 for nearly 5 years. It has been used to split firewood thrown and generally abused. One of the locking mechs overroad the stud it is mounted on. I fixed it and then broke it again intentionally, as it opened a lot smoother that way.
Their customer service is outstanding. I used to sell knives. A friend bought some throwing knives and broke one during use and abuse testing. Sent it back with a copy of the reciept and had a new one two weeks later. Another example, I had an order mix up and got two of the wrong item. They shipped me the correct items the next day and told me to keep the two axes I got by mistake. I would add avoid some of the super cheap knives(the new warhead etc) no experience with them but they remind me too much of the uber cheap tacticool gunshow POS. The True flight thrower is good to go and works as a functional knife in addition to being a greater thrower. The bushman is also good. |

I think cold steel are the best knives you can get for the price range. just curious, why do people have problems with lynn thompson (owner) because of the whole deal with him and mick strider? Nope, it's his marketing scheme. He's like late night infomercials to the knife world. Bam i can slice a melon with thins BAM i can slice a stick, BAM i can slice a steel drum.......You get the idea. I personally think whatever makes you money go for it. |

I own several Cold Steele knives and all have performed well. My EDC is a Benchmade. Can't speak on the Scimitar; seems it would be a little awkward to carry though. I ordered one and it got here yesterday. I was thinking the same thing ( being awkward ) and its in my pocket right now and seems alot less bulky than my Buck with the same length blade. No blade play at all and it feels great I'm my hand. Ive never bought a knife thats this sharp right out of the box. IMO its well worth the $77 I payed |
| Once I purchased my first Cold Steel knife, I got rid of all of the other knives that I owned since their quality didn't come close to that of the Cold Steel blade. I now have a Voyager Tanto, a Recon Tanto and a Gurkha Kukri, all which round out my outdoor needs. |

Cold Steel steals other people's designs shamelessly. Bob Lum created the "American tanto" blade, CS took without giving credit, let alone royalties. The latest example is the Emerson "wave" Lots of designs get ripped off in the knife world, CS is just the worst offender among "reputable" companies. FWIW I met Lynne Thompson several times at the old Soldier of Fortune conventions here in Vegas, and he was really a nice guy, though infused with that borderline creepy Billy Mays type of superentrepeneur energy. |
