How are these for reliability and functionality? Saw one yesterday and was curious. Price was 425.00.
thanks |

don't know about durability and functionality, i've only heard from people who quickly got rid of them.
the BHO os a non functional lump. the threads on the muzzle are metric. the trigger group is non standard it's a pain to tear down and clean, unlike every other AR or AR clone out there. the 30rd mags are huge... about the size of a 40rd 5.56 mag. i'd suggest the S&W 15-22 or something from CMMG. |

As mentioned, the Colt is made by Umirex (sp?) & imported. It's also a POS of the first order by those who've owned them.
If you're wanting an AR in .22LR caliber, the best two out there right now are the Sig 522 & the S&W AR-22. I had the S&W & traded it in on the Sig & couldn't be happier. The Sig also is the only one using metal mags (AFAIK) made by BlackDog. These are also the same mags that are used in the AR-15 .22LR conversions, so you know the quality is good. The Sig offers a buttstock that is both retractable as well as folding, the only maker to do that. Hope this helps! |

the Sig 522 may be a good gun, but it's not an AR-15 style gun... it's the .22 version of the Sig 556. While true, the Sig IS a gun that uses AR mags in its .556 version & uses BD mags that is sold with .22LR AR conversion kits. Close enough to be called an AR-type rifle, IMO. YMMV. |

I've never heard a bad thing about the S&W, can't say the same about the Colt. As a matter of fact, I've never heard a good thing about the Colt (Umirex).
If it doesn't "have" to be an AR type, my GSG5-SD is a flat out blast, super reliable and very accurate for a plinker. I haven't broken it down to clean it since I got it and don't plan to until it stops shooting (I have a bet with a friend that I can get 5k rounds out of it before I take it apart). I've put about 2500 through it and all I've done is oil the bolt, run a snake through the barrel and wipe the chamber down with a few Q-tips. Not one failure that wasn't ammo related since I got it. The hardest part about the bet is going to be not taking it apart to remove the mag disconnect |

And keep in mind that Umarex is the company making HK's MP5 in .22-you know, the gun they sued GSG over to get rid of a competitior. Them working with HK after the lawsuit is more than enough reason not to buy one. Add that to the already mentioned poor reputation and it's a no brainer. |
