Sup.  I have heard some idividuals say that NEW  colt rifles are crap.  I have heard them say that they are sloppy and not worth having.  And that bushmaster is the KING of AR's.

I am thinking about getting a 6601 colt, i dont necessarily believe everything i hear but, i do believe that anything is possible.

Anyone else hear this or experienced it?  What type of postban muzzle brakes does colt offer?

thanks

Sup yourself, my Kentucky brother.
Yes, I've heard the same thing about Colt firearms. Personally, I don't know about the new AR's, the Colt AR's I own are pre-ban, but I can tell you this, I've purchased two Colt M1991a1's (pistols) in the last 3 years. Both were bought new, and both would not fire a full mag (7 rounds) out of the box, I kid you not. I have a friend that is an excellent gunsmith and had him work both pistols for me. Now, both function excellent.
just my 2 cents worth.
In this case, Colt Firearms' Quality Control SUCKED POO-POO
colt, out

Colt has been hit and miss for the last 10 years.  Their QC is pretty bad.  However, I've had a couple of Colt rifles and pistols that have functioned very well.  It's really luck of the draw.

When I bought my post ban it was flawless.
Not one problem yet.
Pre ban Colt is flawless as well.

At least our bolts don't break like Bushmasters.
Do a search and read the Industry forms.
You'll see.

I see Colt, Rock River and Armalite having the least
amount of problems.
But one thing to remember, A lot of people own Bushmaster,
So more issues are reported. Look over what ever you buy.
Take it apart and lube properly before you shoot it.

I see........

Well i have a colt preban Carbine myself and the quality is great.  It functions perfect aswell.  Wasnt too sure about the postbans.

Maybe i'll go with Bushmaster.  They are alot cheaper and easier to get parts for.

I have picked up several postban colts at gunshows.  Some are sloppy and some are good.

Its the same thing everytime though.  Some vendors will say that colt sucks and bushmaster is the one to have.  Others will say the opposite.

Figured i would ask from people who have first hand experience.

My postban Colt MT6601c is a gem, fit and finish are excellent, it fires 100%, is as accurate as a fly's eyeball, and Quality is beyond reproach.

A few of us (well 170 some of us) from our department ordered rifles from Colt this year.  At least two of the rifles would not accept mil spec magazines.  Reason?  Out of spec trigger guards that would not let the magazine enter the mag well.  One would think that would have been caught before leaving the factory.  hese
I’m just glad I got one of the rifles that had the metal butt stock doorplate and not the one with the plastic latch and hinge.  Although I did replace my rifles black plastic buffer with a brand new anodized green mil spec one from Bushmaster.  he

2 Colts here in the last 2 years, neither has ever given me a problem. Fit and finish are excellent.

I own a post-ban 6601 & it shoots like a dream, sub-moa groups with mil-surp ammo. As for Bushy's, I've seen a lot more threads dealing with their problems than Colts. If I were to do it all over again I'd still buy the Colt.

One of the most interesting recent conversations that I have had in a while on this subject was with Clint Smith, director at ThunderRanch.

Knowing that he sees PLENTY of rifles come through ThunderRanch, I asked him what he would recommend for a no BS urban tactical rifle that won't break down on me during his course.

His recommendations upon what he has seen go through his school through the years was to go with Colt if I went with an AR and to get a Chicom produced rifle if I went with an AK.

For all its worth, he also said that no gun manufacturer is perfect, but these would be his personal choices.

In addition, he told me that he is working with commercial manufacturers, and in particular, a VERY well known AR manufacturer, whom I will not name, on producing a "Thunder Ranch" AR Carbine.....but that Clint will NOT put his TR name on this rifle unless it meets his reliability and performance standards (which I assume from our conversation hasn't happened yet...the rifle samples I believe is still in the design and/or testing phase)

Over the years, I have had a lot of AR's. I have built some. The only 1 I have now is a 6700 bought last year. I can honestly say, I have never had a bad Colt. I can't say that about any of the others out there. The plastic buffer, and large pins I consider an improvement. The plastic butt latch has no effect on anything. My 6700 has a chrome bore as well as chamber. Not to bash the great AR's out there, but with value retention as part of the equation, I will never own anything else but Colt.

When it comes to "AR's", I'm no fan of Colts' but I must also say I've never had any problems with the ones I've owned and don't see many problem posts.
Now, I don't know about the newer AR's.

I have two Colt AR-15s, but both are pre- ban( purchased around 1991) as for the new ones, I don't know.  I also have a Bushmaster, all 3 work no problems...  go figure.

The Colt HBAR on the MT6601 has a chrome lined chamber, and MAY have a chrome lined barrel. About the only way you can tell is to look at the crown of the muzzle, if you can see a chrome ring where the muzzle was masked off during parkerizing it is chrome lined. Seems Colt produced the barrel in both flavors, and there is nothing on the barrel to indicate which it is.

I looked over a post ban Colt 6601 the other day. I am considering the 6601 or the 6700. It looked quality to me. I'm no AR-type rifle expert but I can tell a piece of crap gun from a good one. I'm sure Colt turns out lemons-they all do- but this particular 6601 felt solid and screamed "quality".

I've also looked at a Bushmaster A2 that screamed "quality" as well.

I took a Colt Gold Cup cal 45. to the gunsmith to fix it, it would jam a lot with a lot of different ammo brands. He said he could not work on it the frame was cracked on the top, he was right small crack I sent that pistol back and forth to Colt , two times, and they pretty much acted like I was annoying  them. I would not buy a Colt product now for anything. Also they wanted to charge me for any repairs. Another time I bought a SS Government model factory new , went to the range and went to fire the first shot nothing, inspecting it I find it left the factory with no firing pin installed. Colt no thanks, not for me.
