It sounds like someone SP1ed an SP2....but Colt has made about two zillion different models of the AR-15 so it's a bit hard to tell.....the important thing is that it is all Colt. Do the upper and lower finishes match fairly well? |

Here ya go: www.biggerhammer.net/ar15/variants/ You can look it up by Serial No., or features, it should give you plenty of info! |

It was the standard, AR-15A2 "as introduced" by Colt. They used the newer govt. profile 1/7 barrel, A2 handguards, tapered delta ring, A2 handgrip and buttstock. But retained the SP1 lowers without the mag fence. And used the A1 rear sight, 1st with just a tear drop FA, 2nd with a round FA, then 3rd with FA and case deflector (as the s/n went from about 300,000 to 330,000). Look on Gunbroker.com at item 33970777, an AR15A2. My "clone" of this model weighs a hair under 7 pounds without the magazine. R6500's are sweet... Paladin |
As stated above, it is an R6500 (Boomer is one of the resident Colt experts, maybe he can confirm), in which case some came w/out FA's, and some with; some came without brass deflectors, and some with. I believe all came with A1 sights, though. I have one with every A2 feature, except it retained the A1 sights. The C H stands for Colt Harvey- the contract machinist at the time the forging was made (I think??). Hope this helps |
