I'm close to getting my concealed carry permit here in NC. This, of course, gives me an excellent excuse to buy a new weapon. I am leaning towards an ankle holster, as I normally wear business clothing, ie tucked in shirt, tie, slacks. Any advice on what I should get? [Edited because I'm a dumbass] |
|
I like a 5-shot 38 Revolver. Cheap option with adequate firepower that will ALWAYS work! I also have a pair of Glocks (G-17 and G-21) but these are no where as conceilable as the 38. I bought a Taurus M-85 and for $175 it was a bargan for the purpose and it shoots very accurately as well! |
| I also am attired in "business casual" and I carry a Ruger SP101 .357mag all day every day. I took an Uncle Mike's size "0" holster and cut off the plastic clip. The gun and holster ride in my right front pants pocket. The material on the outside of the holster adheres to the inside of your pocket and the material inside the holster allows for drawing without pulling the holster out of your pocket. I've never been asked "what's in your pocket" since people rarely are looking there, and the way your arm naturally falls adds to the covering affect. This set up works for all pants except for the tightest of jeans. |
|
I have found that the best CC gun is the KelTec P32. I can carry it in shorts and it's invisible, especially with the optional belt clip. My second fave is the Walther PPK, it's so slim you hardly know it's there. When I know it's going to be hairy I carry my P229 Sig. |
| On line with Green furniture on the P 32. Since I bought mine, I am almost never without it. It is so light and handy, and the DAO trigger is a joy. Had a Tomcat before, and while it was a nice gun, thickness and weight made carry with shorts difficult (and the clip release stuck out so far, every time I sat on it, the clip popped 1/4" out, embarrasing). I made a pocket holster of sorts, 1 heavy piece of black leather with a thin 1/2 "pouch on it. the heavy piece goes out to prevent printing. I realize the .32 is noot a true fight stopper, but all I'm looking for is time to retreat to safety, and a mouse gun you carry all the time is better than a magnum you leave at home. |
| Both in my personal and professional, albeit humble, opinion, I would recommend a Glock 26 or 27 if your situation allows you to wear a jacket or untucked shirt (IWB holster), or a North American Arms Guardian .32 or (new) .390 ACP., which EASILY fits right in your front or back pants pocket. |
|
Ankle holsters suck for ease of access and should only be for a backup gun unless you're really comfortable dropping to one knee to get to your weapon. I am quite pleased with my Glock 27 in a Pager Pal for business casual and in a kydex holster for business slacks, tie and jacket. it's funny when one of my key requirements buying a new suit is that my concealed piece doesn't print. God Bless Texas |
Has "pagerpal" got a website? I have never seen one. |
ahhhhhh, Why didn't I think of that?
|
| I also love the P32 for discrete (and deep) carry. No one is the wiser. Probably not a fight stopper though. If you are up against terrorists it aint going to cut it - but would stop your average criminal in his tracks. Stay safe! I had a Beretta but sold it for the P32. Get the chrome top if you can - better sight picture. |
|
I carry a Kel-Tec P11 daily. I use the optional belt clip, and I keep a 59 series S&W magazine handy as a reload with 15 rounds in it. My only complaint about the pistol (besides the DAO trigger pull), was the factory finish not holding up perfectly with the slide against my skin for long periods of time. There's a hard chrome finish available, but I just had my slide and barrel refinished in OD Green by Derek at AZEX. www.azexarms.com It's a great little 9mm. I trust my life to it every day. ![]() And I paid about $230 for it... |

Beretta 92, SW 4506, Ruger GP100, and thinking about a USP 40. One of the perks for living in the PNW is that during a good chunk of the year, the weather dictates clothing that can conceal just about anything smaller than a Desert Eagle. The rest of the year I use a Gun Runner pack and I don't care if it looks "gay". |
I was embarassing my wife by breaking clay pigeons on the 50 yard berm with my G26... |

Been carrying concealed regularly going on 8 years now. The only guns I have found comfortable to wear all day long are the Taurus Titanium revolvers and the smith and wesson airlights. I am down to having settled completely into a taurus .357 magnum 7 shot titanium model. Light weight, great grip, always goes bang, no matter how much lint is built up in it. Sweat does not seem to bother the finish, and it shoots well at 15 and 20yds. good luck in your decision, remember though the weight will make a big difference when you carry concealed, you'll see. |
Yes, I have been leaning towards both of these, due to their weight and small size. Do you pocket carry these? Thanks [Edited again because i'm a dumbass, and can't spell] |
|
Personally, I would NEVER carry a weapon smaller than 9mm for primary carry weapon (concealed or not)...unless it was the only alternative to not carrying anything. I carry a full size Government-sized 1911 in .45acp (Les Baer Premier II) in a Milt Sparks Versa Max 2 holster. It's the best inside-the-waistband holster I've ever seen, especially for a full size gun like a 1911. I humbly suggest that an Ankle holster only be for a secondary weapon. It's not convenient at all to get to when the SHTF. If you're carrying a small .32 or 9mm pocket gun, the Pager Pals aren't that bad an option. They suck for heavier/bulkier guns though...my snub-nosed S&W Model 66 is NOT comfortable to carry in a Pager Pal. Whatever you do, spend money on a good holster. Milt Sparks and Mitch Rosen make EXCELLENT leather, and I would RUN AWAY from any holster under $40. Again, my opinion. Congrats on your CCW decision. "'Tis better to carry small, than not carry at all!" Tailgate, 2001 |

I usually carry a Glock 23 in an IWB holster. As I'm a big guy, concealing it is not a problem. Now, if you want something smaller, check out the line of Bersa .380's. They are light, concealable, and accurate. They can also be found at gunshows for under $200. Vulcan94 Oh Boy, Only one post to 100!!!! |

Ditto - and in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster, it's invisable. If your going to carry a gun get one your going to carry ALL THE TIME. I'd also like to agree with the P229 option, but unfortunately I let mine go(still whining about that one [>(]), so I'll take the G19 instead. |
| I think of carrying concealed as a system of weapons and holsters. My system includes, among others, a NAA .22, Kel Tec .32, S&W 442, Glocks 27,23,22. I have various paddle, IWB, shoulder, belt, ankle, and pocket carry systems. With the above mentioned I can carry concealed in a bathing siut if I feel the need. There lots that works. Choose what works for you. |

Nobody else has posted this combo... Ruger Vaquero in .45 long colt El Paso Saddlery Holster http://www.gunblast.com/El_Paso.htm Australian Duster Cowboy Hat Ostrich Boots Walking into Wal-Mart with a Vaquero in .45 LC on your hip is quite a rush, imho... YMMV, of course. and another thing.... In Texas you have more 'warm-hot' days that you will not want to carry inside the waistband, in an ankle holster, or under the shirt. Body heat leads to sweat, and sweat ain't a nice thing for a non-stainless gun. NC is different climate wise, but think about long term durability of a primary concealed carry gun in the warm/humid environment of inside the clothing. I carry a .40 Sigma on my right hip in a pancake with a cover shirt/jacket when possible. On the hot days, I switch to a .380 Bersa in a fanny pack. |
