Is there a way to speed up or slow down the ROF.....perhaps using different weight buffers??
Please school me.
I want to learn this stuff.  My Form 4's just came in.

Thanks.

Yes, try using heavy buffers, 9mm buffers, 45 buffers, slash buffers...

I've found my M16's with CAR stocks only run with heavy buffers, but with A2's they can run all day...  weight makes a huge difference.

An Enidine will slow it down.

Sure there are many ways to speed up or slow down the ROF on an M16.

The three primary drivers of action speed and ROF are as follows.

A.  Weight in the action system and how that weight is able to be leveraged.
    - More weight = slower action speed.  i.e. a heavier buffer system such as the Colt H2/H3 or 9MM Letter valued buffers.
    - Allow the weight to slide farther within the buffer system for longer dwell time at the end of each action cycle such as the AAC or MGI system
    - Less weight in the buffer or use an aluminum carrier and the system will speed up.

B.  Buffer spring force.
    - In general the lighter the buffer spring the lower the ROF you will have.  Combine a higher weight buffer with a lower strength recoil spring for even greater results.
    - Really strong buffer spring will generally speed up the ROF.  Combine a lighter weight carrier and buffer with a really strong buffer spring and your ROF will go up dramtically.

C.  Gas port size.
    - The bigger the gas port the faster the action will cycle.  (However go to big and you will tear the rims of cases)
    - The smaller the gas port the slower the action will cycle. (Go to small and the gun won't extract properly)

Combine these attibutes in combination and together to get the desired ROF and reliability you are looking for.

Thank you all for your responses.
Just starting to enjoy our "new" SP1 RR.

As the linked thread notes, weaker ammo ='s lower ROF also.

I run a Spikes tungsten buffer with my handloads that are really mild (23gr of Varget/55gr FMJ) and get a really slow ROF. You can get 1 round off per trigger pull quite easily.

I bought a Enidine Buffer but haven't used it yet.

I always liked the higher ROF weapons.
