1) Are you guys cleaning out your primer pockets?

2) Are you cleaning the inside of the neck/mouth area with a brush?

3) Was looking at a reloading manual and can't both things be accomplished by tumbling?

Primer pockets don't clean quite as well as the rest of the case, including inside when tumbling.  I clean primer pockets and tumble but that is it.

1. Yes
2. Yes with bottle neck caces, No to straight wall pistol cartridges.
3. No, primer residue is hard.

1) yes for rifle brass, no for pistol.  I have to hold the case to see if any tumbling media is in the flash hole, so I clean it at the same time

2) no

3) no.  media has to flow around the brass to clean it, it doesn't flow either on the primer pocket or inside of the neck so those areas dont get cleaned in my experience

Reason I ask is man there is a lot of cleaning to be done if I have to do the primer pocket and all the necks on my 223 brass.  Not complaining of course - just that I don't yet have a primer pocket method nor a brush for the mouth/neck area.

I was hoping tumbling would take care of it.  Damn.

Ah got it.  Thanks.  Yeah I am talking about just plinking at 100 yards.   I keep factory ammo on hand at all times should I ever need more accuracy.

Usually I don't shoot outdoors so the cases are not getting dirt in them.

Walnut will help slow down the build up of residue in primer pockets.  Most shooters don't need to worry about it until it interferes with primer seating.
