I recently got a brand new M14 from one of the top builders.  I specified a USGI walnut stock.  The rifle came and there is a crack from one of the sharp cuts on the front of the mag well.

Other than that, I really like the stock.  It's nicely figured, clean of dents and has good cartouches.

Is this crack a common thing?  It almost seems like the design is just asking for a grain flaw right there with the sharp 90 degree cuts.  Should I get a replacement?

I'm thinking of contacting the builder and seeing if he'll just make note of my issue and promise to replace later down the road if the crack grows.  Your thoughts are requested.

If I were you I would contact the builder and tell him about the stock. I am sure that you didnt pay for a cracked stock.
