Could this be used as a curing oven?
How does this unit work? Would I just plug it in and set the temp? http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?i=401739&pdesc=Smoke_Hollow_30_Electric_Smoker&str=smoker&merchID=4005 |

Could this work instead?
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Euro-Pro-TO37-Digital-Convection-Oven/11396550 * Convection feature for fast even cooking with no hot spots * Easy to read and keep clean digital control panel * Full range temperature control up to 450 degrees * Auto off 60 minute timer with Stay On function Might be barely big enough to fit a 16" barrel, or a batch of parts. For a mere $80... and you can heat your pizza in the shop in it, too!

I have used a $30 Proctor Silex toaster oven to bake Gun-Kote several times. It is not as large as that one, and all I have done is Gov't model slides and frames. It does do that well, though.
One of my winter projects was supposed to be cutting a hole in the top for a piece of stove pipe. This would enable baking barrels, or barreled actions. According to a calculator I found online, it should still be able to reach 300 degrees. Like several other projects this winter, it didn't get done. I like it being lightweight. I can set it out doors in the summer time, and not over work the air conditioning. I would just use my kitchen oven, but being a bachelor, I have women complain about that. |

GunKote can be cured at 200 or 300, just different lengths of time. If this puppy can indeed get to 400 and has decent temperature control, I think I just found an excuse to buy a smoker.... |

do a search on Sniper's hide for "hillbilly oven". very cheap to make and a good design. i'll be using one almost exactly like it for cerakote in the shop http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1624662 This got me thinking (a dangerous pastime indeed) and looking at Ye Olde McMaster-Carr catalogue... http://www.mcmaster.com/#pvc-pipe-heaters/=60idam Electric Heating Blanket— Just wrap it around the pipe and secure it with the hook-and-loop strap. Evenly heats any schedule of 1/2" to 1 1/2" dia. PVC conduit and pipe. Blanket measures 13" Lg. x 8 1/4" Wd. and has a woven glass exterior and a silicone vinyl interior. Includes an 8-ft. cord with two-prong plug. Operates on 120 VAC. Reaches temperatures over 300° F. Figure one heater wrapped around a section of vent duct - $200 for the heater http://www.mcmaster.com/#rope-heaters/=60ifg4 Easy-to-Wrap Heat Tape with Temperature Controller - This flexible constant-wattage heat tape is chemical and moisture resistant. It's made of braided wire elements wrapped in fiberglass and encapsulated in silicone rubber. Perfect for bending plastics, thawing frozen pipes, and applications requiring rapid heating. The attached controller lets you regulate the on and off time of the tape. Maximum continuous heat output is 450° F. Tape can be exposed to temperatures from -60° to +450° F. To prevent burnout, heat tape must not be overlapped and all of the tape must be in constant contact with the surface being heated. To determine amp draw, divide total watt output by volts. Tape is 1/8" thick, single phase, and has a 6-ft. long power cord. 120 VAC tape includes a standard two-prong plug Figure one 10 ft long 1/2" heater wrapped around vent tubing - $160 for the heater The Gander Mountain Smoker is rather tempting, as it can do double duty |

I got the electric smoker from Academy, exact same model as the Gander Mountain version.
Works exceedingly well for short (16 or less) barrels and small parts. Temperature control a little tricky but she now holds 300F pretty consistent Works exceedingly well for ribs, brisket and turkey - recommend mesquite and the LaRue Dillo Rub A very well spent $160 |

Try this, You can bake a full size Fal in it. I have used one for close to 10 years . One of the best buys I have ever made ! It also can be bought in 110 . http://www.harborfreight.com/230-volt-powder-coat-oven-95887.html How can you bake a full sized FAL in it when it's 18"??? If you had a 16" barrel, I suppose it would work, but a longer barrel would not work in that oven. |
|
Use your mellon man ...Its just the barreled upper and the lower is hanging next to it ..Place the weapon in the back and tilt the barrel up! Dont tell me it cant be done as I have done it 50 plus times on Fullsize fals ! Trust me and just buy one as it will pay for itself after a couple of your own refinish jobs. |
