The real Camillus Cutlery isn't back in business as the factory down the road from me is vacant since it shut down.

Another company bought up the name and is producing "Camillus" knives, but they're no longer made in Camillus, NY.

I think the new Camillus knives are all made in China.

I didn't know they were back but it looks like they were bought be ACME. Their products never seemed to work out for Wily E. Coyote so I'd be a bit hesitant.

Sorry, no idea of the quality.

Damn that's sad.  I see they went with the goofy hammer pommel like the Bear Grylls knife.  Hopefully the handle won't break in two if you use it.

I've been watching all the Survivorman episodes on Netfilx again.  Les uses some shit knives in that show and it obviously doesn't matter.  I like nice knives as much as any knife nut, but there's not really that much difference between one sharp piece of steel or another when it really comes down to it.

edit:  I just looked at that again.  They say "440 stainless" but that's it. That almost always means 440A.  Easy to stamp, so cheap production.  Also the blades are coated.  Why would you coat a stainless blade?  So you don't have to surface finish it.

I surface coat stainless for use in harsh Ocean environments as if you have a limited amount of fresh water to rinse well your gear (as every diver knows well), your 'stain-less' tools will indeed rust even if mirror polished. Also sometimes you just want some color (shrug).  Areas that rust first are usually under the handle and around a guard or handle pi9ns and then it goes downhill from there. Most stain-less steels have an amount of carbon and iron and they will rust...just they are far less likely to do so than less chromium alloys. So essentially...carbon%= rust.....no carbon%not as likely. Alloys are how they change this. Stellite is a good example or Beta Titanium.

I came accross some old Camilus knives that my dad had. There was one that was pretty messed up and after seeing that they had a lifetime warrenty, figuered I'd send it in to get a blade replaced. Well....Seems as the "new" Camilus only bought the name. They have NONE of the plans, jigs, blueprints, stock, parts or really anything that has to do with Camilus prior to being bought out. They suggested finding a custom knifemaker to have a blade made and installed. All the knives appear to be manufactured off-shore somewhere.
