I don't know that differential hardening makes any sense on a blade this small, but Miller does it anyway. Well balanced and a major pain in the ass to sharpen (but holds an edge damn well)

This is more a curiosity, but it was custom made to my specs and I'm fairly sure there aren't any like it

It's not a finish

The thing cost an arm and a leg, but the blade and bolsters are Gibeon meteorite while the various accents are stony and pallasite (I have a certificate somewhere that details each meteorite used in construction)  Not quite half way down the page - Dan Fronefield

The top one is by M.Miller and I happened across it while looking for a new pocket knife early 2009. It's numbered, but the tempering, turquoise, and wood all make slight differences between each.

Ya gotta talk to Martin.  His blades go fast when he puts them up for sale, so good luck!  I happened to catch him when my blade was about finished.  It met all the specs I was looking for, and I was sold.  I would do it again in a heart beat.  Martin took the time to go over steel choices with me as well, something that was very helpful for future purchases.  i want one of his H.O.S. blades next, but I am still trying to find finding without the CFO realizing where the cash went!

@ Wyzardd an 80sgyrene.  Those are nice blades.

And that patch isn't bad either!

I think that's a pretty reasonable price really, considering the materials.  Thanks for posting it, it's a cool knife.

I really should have thought about the strain this thread would put on my marriage BEFORE starting it.

@Wyzardd:  SO cool...I've been watching "Meteorite Men" on the Science Channel and really getting into the meteorite thing...what an awesome knife, made from truly awe-inspiring material.

@80sgyrene: Classic and fantastic...thank you for your service.

Last time I talked to Dan he had just moved to Colorado. That was a few years ago and he hasn't updated his website since before that, so I'm not sure if he's still in business or not. If you're really interested though, I'd email him. Be warned that the prices listed on the site are from the same time as the collapse of the dot-com bubble.
He apparently keeps paying the fees to keep the site up, so I suppose it's possible he's still in business.

I've never tried sharpening it. That Fe-Ni is fairly hard (I've heard) but also brittle and I don't want a repeat of that ceramic blade I had from Boker. I'll grab my KaBar if I want to cut anyone open, but it seems a shame the most expensive knife I own has no edge whatsoever.

You have to display a meteorite somehow, right? Even if you can't field dress, bone, and skin a cape buffalo with it your knife is an awesome way to show the beauty of this interstellar metal.

And I have a 4.5 billion year old knife!

I love all the knives in this thread, there's just something about hand made/custom/whatever that appeals to me. The rest of mine are mass produced and get plenty of use and abuse, but most are just tools. Nothing sets them apart from the 100 or thousands made every year by the same company.

Thanks! All of them are "Users".....The 10-3 in my Maxpedition bag as an EDC blade. My Model 16 is my kayaking blade and the Model 14 is my general "Knock around" ranch knife. I have packed the 12-9 at the ranch a few times, but it is a tad too big for general purpose all around use.

I have one more Randall coming in a few months. It is a Model 5 that will have a 5" blade, curved double brass hilt similar to the one on my Model 16 and a stacked leather handle. I see it becoming my main general use knife for carrying outdoors.

@ John

I feel for you.  I couldn't either.  It was actually a pic of another knife that led to the email to Martin, that led to a fight with the wife over the cost of the knife!  But, I love it.  My boss hates that I wear it on my duty belt, but policy doesn't say how big a knife can be, so I went all the way.  I love it in hand, the hefty feel, the wicked sharp blade, and the simple cool factor.

Bark River Knife & ToolCQ - 1 Prototype Close Quarters knife developed at the request of Force Recon.

NOT a General Purpose knife.

These knives are for Close Quarter use.  This version is meant to be concealable but large enough to be effective in self defense.

A good size blade and a very compact handle ––Force Recon wants it sharp on both edges.

Small integral lug style Quillions instead of an attached guard.

Blades are convex ground to both the main Edge and the False Edge.

Overall Length: 9 Inches
Blade Length: 5 Inches
Steel: 154CM @ 58rc
Steel Thickness: .187 Inch
Weight: 6.775 Ounces
Handle:  Black Canvas Micarta

Mine is a PRE-PRODUCTION Prototype, only 60 made and only 2 in CIVILIAN HANDS!

The top Quillion on mine was omitted and it came in a Kydex sheath to be mounted on a MERC Harness.

My Dad has me beat though...he has the first run #8 of WALTER BREND, #8 of the first 10 knives Walter did for his induction into the knifemakers guild!

Not to hijack the thread, guys, but i hope you can help me with a recent purchase.
Its a damascas bowie, wood handled, with a brass guard. The overall length is
10.375 inches, and its a clip point.
It doesn appear to be fulltang, as the wood is one piece, held on with three brass pins.

its a sweet knife, takes an edge well, and is pretty usefull, nice size.

The underside of the brass guard and also the leather sheath is marked R. Crissman.
No other info, Googling it comes up with nothing.

The old man at the gun show could tell me nothing about it. For what its worth, i gave
$75 for it.

I know its not super collectable or anything like that, and i`m sure gonna use it a lot, just
wanna know more about it.
Will post pics when daughter shows me how.

I tried searching the name in all the knife forums I frequent but couldn't find anything. If you can get pictures there is a sub-forum on Bladeforums.com that is dedicated to identifying unknown knives, just be sure to read the sticky at the top about the information to include in your post before posting.
