I've been chopping and filing on my old factory stock lately.  It got me wondering if anyone else has been doing the same.

The only other one's I've seen are on the Whistle Pig Image Gallery.

All I've done is section 2" from a stock for my daughter's rifle.

When she gets a little older I can put a 1" recoil pad on it then even later I can put the factory one back on.

Not too bad for a $30 stock project.  I can't wait for my Leupold to get here to replace that old Tasco.

This is one I posted a while back.

It started out like this:

I wanted to try and do a custom stock of my own, and have something a little different. I took a full sized picture of my stock and created an outline of it.

Then I printed out the section I was going to modify. Draw it out by hand then scanned it in for Photoshop. After I had the template, I printed it and cut it out.

I laid the template on the wood and cut it out with my sawsall.

After the initial adding of the grip and forearm bulge. I took a piece of 1x6 and cut the piece to fit the stock. Screwed them on and shaped them to what I wanted. I also cut out a contour and smoothed it out above the grip area for a better hand position.

To fill in the gaps I used automotive Bondo, and sanded it smooth to desired feel.

Final sanding and ready for texture.

After texture was applied.

I used course saw dust mixed in fiberglass resin to make my texture. After it was dried I sanded it down to lose the sharp points. I masked off the areas that I didn't want the texture to be.

The finished stock after adding the finish. I used Duplicolor bedliner to give it that textured look and add strength to the stock.

I'm working on another currently. It's been a slow process this time around. I kinda gave up on it for a while after the first incarnation of it looked like poop.
