Would like to enter the FAL owning community with a Rhodesian FAL Clone.

Exploring options other than finding a Rhodesian parts kit and a builder.....

Are any of the DSA FAL's a good base for a Rhodesian FAL Clone?  What parts/furniture would have to be changed out?  Sources for these parts?  In particular, could one start with the DSA Imbel FAL as a base rifle?

Thank You in advance for any info/advice!

Been thinking the same thing.  IIRC, some Imbels ended up in Rhodesia.  I know round hag without bipod cut is more authentic, and since paint came in around 75-77 it should be pretty easy to make a Rhody clone.

I asked the same thing of  gunplumber. He stated a lot of imbels were sent to Rhodesia by way of Chile

Yes, non bipod cut HG's and a grenade sight gas plug would do it. Also need an old Enfield tan sling to round it out. I HIGHLY recommend you guys hear over to WWW.FALFILES.com, hit the forums and look at the Rhodie Threads there. I have done a Rhodie, off an original SA kit, on an Imbel and a G3, ( and AR15,AK,AR10...lol I love the paint)  If you need the paint codes to match it perfectly, and with the correct type of paint, let me know I can dig around and find it. They used Automotive paint from the Motor pool, with a brush, and dabs, stripes, blotches, whatever, there is no real rhyme or reason, just an individual taste, but the colors are pretty consistant.  And the rifles I have that I painted will blend in everywhere, even casino carpet... But, if you paint it with the correct paint, be warned it is an industrial epoxy type paint, and when I swapped barrels on my first AR15 NM rifle I rhodied, I gave the old barrel to a friend and I had to turn the paint off on the lathe to remove it. So yeah, you got to untuck your junk and go in balls first on the project, its fairly permanent. I also found a decent match in Krylon, for the AR10, less permanent, but just as much fun to do, however not as durable. If you want to paint it up, I will help you as much as I can, I love it.

On the hgs, there were some US made Penguin hgs that were round, then there was some Imbels that were round, original FN were round, and I have thought about using a regular set of bipod cut ones and filling the groves since they will be painted.

Thank you all.  I'll be picking up on the DSA Imbels and definitely going "Ballz Deep!"  LOL.  Panzer...  would greatly appreciate that information on color numbers etc., because I'm baby pooing the heck out of this weapon.  Thanks much Brother

your IM box was full, so here you go.

It's very durable Dupont Centari automotive & industrial paint and is a perfect match for the camo paint commonly found on the Rhodesian parts kits right down to the proper amount of "flat" It goes on easily with a brush if you want the "correct" crudely painted look or can be thinned with acrylic enamel reducer and sprayed with an airbrush. You can buy it at any automotive paint supply store that sells Dupont paint. . The code number for the dark forest green is DS166A. The code for the mustard yellow/green commonly referred to as "babyshit" is YS432A. With these codes any Dupont paint dealer can mix you all you want in quantities as small as a pint. Be advised that a pint will do probably 4-6 rifles and alot of mags and will cost you somewhere around $30-$40 per pint depending on the store you deal with.

Thats a cut and paste from the thread were i got the color from. I just spray the whole rifle down with 90% denatured alchhol, let it dry, leave it 100% assembled. and I painted the yellow first, then did the green stripes. I use the cheap cheap tan brushes that some in the sets of 3-4 for $1. Use the fat one to do the bulk, wait 10-15 minutes, then do the stripes with the smallr brush. Dab it on, don't use heavy brush loads. hang the rifle with wire. Be rude and crude with it and it looks even better..  Oh and also DO NOT BUY THE HARDENER when you get the paint mixed. you don't need it, and also it is permanent. you will need bead blasting at a minimum to get it off. i am going to try to post up some pictures tonight.  with my pint cans I have done an FAL, AK G3 AR and about 20 various mags. still have enough left to do 2 more rifles I think.  let me know if you need anything else,

I always thought FALs were expensive. That's why I never bought one, cause I thought they were almost $2k. I spent more than $1,000 on my last pistol. Might have to get one after all.
