I have a chance at getting a DSA SA58 , 16 inch barrel , side folding stock -no side carry handle with a steyr muzzle brake. I'm not sure if it's a tactical model because I don't think the barrel is fluted...my questions-
Are these reliable? Are they similiar in recoil to my M1a Socom? Are they accurate enough for deer hunting 100 yards?? |

DSA is highly regarded in the FAL community. Like any manufacturer they occasionally have issues, but if you need to send in the gun they'll take care of you.
Are they reliable? Yep. When you get the gas system properly adjusted, I think they're at the same reliability level as ARs and AKs. By that I mean that if you give the gun reasonable care, it'll run. Head to the FAL Files website and find the thread on "Ol' Dirty". Recoil? I haven't shot an M1A Socom, though I did see one fired and thought the multi-hole muzzle brake did a great job at attenuating recoil. Given the FAL you mentioned is probably a tad lighter, I'd say the recoil, while in the same ballpark as the Socom, will be a little heavier with the FAL. Accurate enough for deer at 100? Sure. Your average FAL is probably a 3-4 MOA gun. More than AK accurate but not AR accurate. You didn't ask, but given my druthers, I'd opt for an 18" tube. I've fired 308 in 16" guns, and it's got a lot of bark. The 18" is more well mannered. |

I agree with the previous poster on the 18" barrel. |
