I have been thinking about picking up a DSA STG58 at my local shop, and have been looking it over closely. My question is they also have the all DSA made ones that are 500.00 more, and I was wondering if there is that much difference in the parts? I was told the only difference is that the STG was made with a parts kit and a DSA receiver, and new barrel, are these parts alright? Any other differences I should know? Everyone happy with this particular model? |

The STG is top notch. Some of the parts may be used surplus but they are as good as the US made parts so not an issue to me. The main differences are a steel lower, metal hand guards, bipod, and a 1 year vs lifetime warranty. It really is a good deal, buy it, change out the handguards and lose the bipod and save a bundle. And if you just can't live without an aluminum lower DSA will sell you a bare one. |

I went through the same question process, purchased a STG and I neve looked back...from what I have been told by those who know FAL's, the STG is one of the best set up you can get... Look at some of my post in this forum.....don't expect this rifle to be a tack driver....I was very dis-pleased at first, but when I decided to put an Aimpoint on the STG and remember it is a hard hitting battle rifle, with one main purpose.....I really started to really like the rifle a lot.... The Aimpoint/STG combo is really great out to 200 yards..... 77Bronc |
| Thanks for the replies guys, and yes I did read your thread bronco77. I think it all comes down to perception. I believe a reliable, hard hitting battle rifle that can hold a 2-3" inch group @ 100 yds is plenty accurate for me. I have a long range rifle I am putting together for that reason. I just want to make sure there is nothing I am missing with this STG, seems like a good deal compared to the rest of the DSA lineup. |

I have had a AXEX built FAL buily on an Imbel receiver with Stg58 parts kit and it is a great rifle. I prefer to keep my "Battle Rifles" iron sighted and it is plenty accurate with iron sights for it's intended use. Where I shoot we have A 55 gallon drum filled with rocks at 500 yards and if you steady up the FAL can hammer it with authority. This rifle is now 8 years old and has seen a few thousand rounds without a problem. I just ordered a second FAL. This time I wanted a short folding stock Para type one and chose the DSA SA58 to get the lightweight aluminum receiver and the 16.25" barrel, just because I want it compact. I had to order it and am waiting for it to be built. When getting a FAL from DSA (all of theirs are good stuff!) the Austrian FAL uses a Styer receiver and I don't know what else, but it will be a good rifle. Thi will save you several hundred dollars. According to DSA the all USA rifle (SA58) runs on pound lighter. Lighter is easier to carry, but heavier tames recoil. My STG58 based rifle is a pussycat to shoot and I like it that way! |
