I ordered the 620A regular heavy duty FAL mount form DSA. Will I need any spare screws or spare locking plates? Also, is this mount better than the one from gunpartsguy?
All info appreciated!

While it is always good to have spare parts, they are not necessary.  Just follow the instructions, do not over tighten the screws, and add some blue lotite.  You will be good to go.

i do not have any experience with other mounts.

Hopefully I will get the mount before deer season as my FAL is going to pull double duty this year. If DSA will let me add a couple of those spare parts I will go ahead and get them because it seems like one day they might not be around!

You can never have too many spare parts.

That said, you are less likely to NEED the spare parts for the mount if you can restrain yourself from removing it after it is correctly installed.

I recommend that you correctly install it, and secure the screws with BLUE Loctite.
I nick the screws at 12 o'clock, and add dab a bit of paint, so I can eyeball them to keep track of whether they vibrate loose.

You can get hex head screws with the right size/thread pitch at Lowes--you'll have to cut them to the proper length, but I think they look better.  Just my opinion.

BIG +1 to the loctite.....without it, my scope mount rattled itself loose in under 100 rds.

The hex-head screws have a certain appeal.

...which could be a negative appeal if one loosens in the field, and you lack the correct-size allen wrench.

that's one of the appealing features of the SAW grip with the trapdoor--I keep my allen wrench, gas tube wrench, a dope sheet and a pair of earplugs in mine

I would recommend getting more screws. They are small and SHORT! Very easy to lose.

Get some spare locking plates too.
Once you strip one, its ruined.

Does the base ever move once its locked down ?  For instance, if the rifle is bumped or heaven forbid is leaned up against a truck and slides down and falls to the ground ?

It's not going to move at all unless the screws loosen up, which is why we're all recommending blue loctite.  It's a pretty solid mount when it's installed correctly.  The problem (my opinion) is that if you ever want to remove it--for a good scrubbing or whatever--you lose your zero.   The DSA scope mount is the best way to use an optic on the FAL platform (again, my opinion) but it does make regular maintenance a bit more difficult.   eta:  this problem can be easily remedied by a can of carb cleaner and a  toothbrush, so don't think of it as a deal breaker

I'd say it's worth the effort/rezeroing if you want to use an optic, but I've ditched my magnified scopes for this platform and I stick with irons or occasionally an Aimpoint.

(MY FAL simply isn't accurate enough to justify the expense or weight of a nice scope--but that doesn't mean your's or somebody else's isn't)
