First and foremost I was wondering what the impression of this lil gun were compared to the steyr SPP. secondly could any answer whether this pistol in SBR form is available with the forward mounted pistol grip thats integrated into the molding and not that horrible looking rail?  This would be what Im after. |
| bleh, I called them up and apparently even for factor SBRs they dont allow the front grip without the rail, that only comes on the machinegun version. why its so difficult I dont know, but as much as I love this gun, that lame ass rail and lack of foregrip in its place is a deal breaker. I just go with a much cheaper Uzi. |

I got to handle a few at the NRA show in Louisville this past spring....definitely felt cheap, like a squirtgun- very hollow and plastic-y, not like a glock/XD which has a nice balance of steel and polymer. Reminded me of the Hi-Point carbine I used to have years ago. I think the 13 year old that was also handling a sample pretty much summed it up: "Daddy, is this a real gun?" I'm not even kidding. |

The trigger pull is better than the Steyr SPP. The top cover also comes with a top rail molded in and you can also get the SMG top cover with the additional right side rail and ghost ring sight too. As you found out earlier, only the SMG comes with an integral forward grip. Also spare parts for these guns are non-existent. If anything ever goes wrong with one, you'll have to send it back to DSArms. Looks wicked and um... that's mostly all the pros I can think of.

More reliable than an MP5 IMO and very accurate I still like the MP5 too tho. The reason that you can get the factory front grip is that the pistol would have to be imported as a AOW from BT lots of red tape on that order. BTW I'm Dsarms sales manager if you have TP9 questions call me. |
now why does that TP9 you posted look as though the rail is about 1/3 shorter and slanted as compared to the straight and longer version I normally see?  can the rail even be removed? would something need to be grinded off to be able to grip it without a rail?

The guy who's TP9 that is posts here, and yeah he took a dremel to it. He posted about it but I think the thread is lost in the archives for us plebs. |
Because it is.  WECSOG ftw The rail is screwed in with 2 torx-head screws on the inside, underneath the trigger spring. Just undo those and the rail comes right off and it looks like that SPP picture. |

I've got one and even in pistol form like it. It is fun to shoot and yesterday I was hitting steel silhouettes out to 100 yards from a prone position.
I've got all the paperwork to SBR it but haven't filled it out yet. For a unique, fun to shoot gun, I think they are nice addition to a collection. Practical, not so much. |

Just get a mac 10, do those come in non-full auto form?? Heck, you will spend about the same on a uzi pistol which has lots of after market items and mags/suppressors that are proven. These are light years better than ANY mac I own one of the original Steyr versions, and I agree completely. They're very cool firearms. |

The MP5 is hardly the most reliable SMG, but it represents the best balance between accuracy/function of any SMG of its time. If the world hadn't seen the SAS using them in 1980, people would have kept on keeping on with thier Uzi's, Walther MP's and such. Granted, the MP5 is a slight improvement over the aforementioned weapons in a few areas....Still, image sold a ton of MP5's. The 9x19 cartridge doesn't require a sophisticated locking system such as that included on the MP5. All of the components of the roller-retarted system are esentially "dead weight" and tantamount to the Blish lock on Thompsons. There is a reason why the "latest and greatest" SMG's use non-delayed/simple blowback operation. Considering that MP5 armorers have routinely made thier weapons cycle without roller-components is testiment to this weapon being "over built", and not for the best...The overly complicated lock work is just one of several serious drawbacks to the MP5. In terms of reliability/accuracy a Colt 635/SMG, TP9 or UMP can do anything an MP5 can do and then some. The MP5 is a good weapon, especially considering the time it was developed. IMO, using one definatly removes the "lust factor". They are ergonomically inferior and leave much to be desired, especially in the application of suppressors*non-integral* and optics. Don't confuse popularity with superiority. Any of the 80's generation blowback guns can equal or exceede the performance of the MP5 in a number of areas. |
