Is there a way to un-sporterize a deawoo rifle?

Is it possible to install enough US parts to make it more original?

They aren't worth the effort and this is from someone who owned a preban K2.

Don't do it, you will thank me later.

You are going dump a bunch of money into a rifle that still doesn't have the ergonomics or modularity of an AR.

Aceltd I believe makes a folding stock for the Daewoo.

It wouldn't have the same value of a pre-ban Daewoo with all the US made parts for the count.

I did own an SL8 and was going to do a G-36K conversion to it, but after careful study it just looked like I was going to have to spend a ton of money and effort for a rifle that was less realiable than a G-36 or a stock SL8.  If I was just about looks I would have done it, but I like to have every rifle battle ready for SHTF.

Yes, and yes.

ACE has stocks and pistol grips.  AR-15 trigger parts interchange.  There are other US parts available such as gas piston and the charging handle that count for parts.  US made M16 mags are three US parts right there.  HK-91 and FAL handguards can be modified to fit fairly easily.  Both are available as US made.

Thanks for the links Ross - it made me think again about buying one from a friend.

Most seem to agree that these are good accurate reliable gas-piston 5.56mm rifles.  What seems to keep the interest low is the lack of domestic support (though Ross' websites show there are some DIY parts out there).

Funny, like the Armalite AR-180, these guns are not that sought after. And yet, there is an obsession with gas piston ARs.  I think you should buy the gun and de-ban it. Post pics if you do.

A friend of mine had a DR200 and bought the Ace stock for it. Very well made stock and all, but it is so light weight it made the rifle nose-heavy as all hell.

This is it:

Nice gun & very accurate with Q3131A, but the balance was crap after we put the Ace stock on it. The furniture was painted with Alumahyde II from Brownell's, and we "engineered" the Smith brake (very, very effective at controlling muzzle climb) onto the muzzle.

Nice rifle! Even if it is nose heavy, I think it looks great with that stock.

I wish I never sold mine.

Mine seems to balance very nicely with an ace folder, not heavy at all.... forward or back.  Of course, mine doesn't have an awkwardly high scope/mount on top either.

There's a 'Woo on EE that has a cool stock conversion.

The owner cut the thumbhole section out of the original stock turned it into a fixed stock with pistol grip.

Check it out on EE, it looks good.  He wouldn't return my IM and post on his ad for advice on how to do it, though...

That seems like a good deal.

Bought mine around 1986, paid $300 for it NIB, it's a great gun, accurate, and reliable.
