The uppers are not the same. The K1 and the K2 use a different operating system, and the K1 upper receiver is lighter. The K2 (and presumably the post-ban DR-200 version) have a heavier upper receiver with more metal. In the end the uppers are two entirely different pieces, unlike the upper receiver on the M16/M4 which are the same part (with minor differences). Having said that, supposedly the K1A1 upper will still fit and work on the K2 lower, and the K2 upper will fit and function on the K1A1 lower as well. You can't collapse the K1A1's wire stock with the K2 upper in place because the beefier K2 upper gets in the way. I don't know if the post-ban DR-200 is any different in this respect. I don't remember if the K1A1 has any preban features (it may have a FS) which would make it illegal to put on a DR-200, or require you to do some work on it. Ross |
