They're close to the same price wise, but the AR-50 is several hundred cheaper through my FFL. The thing I like about the '99 though is that it comes with the heavy-duty bipod and case. Does the AR-50? I assume no.

ANy differences between the two I may not be aware of? Accuracy?

You can get the ar50 package kit from Knesek for 2800.00 shipped. Thats 2750.00+50.00 shipping. Email me and if you order from him tell him my name once you email me and I will give the info to you. His package is the prince bipod, case, cleaning kit and base and rings and thats best price you will find. I about got mine paid off so won't be long when i get it.

I was looking at the same choices as well, ended up with the AR50 for a couple reasons.

Had a chance to shoot both beforehand and found that for me the AR50 was more comfortable to shoot. The scope mounted at a better point for me, the cheek piece looks kind of squirelly but it works well and the AR has a very good brake. My 24" bbl AR 10 abuses my shoulder more than the 50 does.

The Barret is a very well made rifle, but for me and my size the AR50 worked better. But the AR is a heavy pig with out any really easy carrying point, so I have to remember to reapply oil just behind the muzzle brake. That is my designated carry point now.

I'm a little confused about the carrying point issue. I'm sure they're both somewhat difficult to carry, but why would one have to oil the muzzle brake?

He's picking it up just behind the muzzle brake.

Does seem like a strange place, unless he's moving it in and out of the safe.

It is much easier to carry at that point, in and out of the safe or at the range. It does not balance well enough for a stock hold and muzzle down toting position, if I carry it at its balance point it is a bitch to manuver, and I don't like sweeping people.

So I grab it under the muzzle brake and haul it around that way.

I don't think there could possibly be any harm by grasping it right behind the muzzle brake. And the oils from your hand are certainly not going to harm the finish on the metal, either, unless you're covered in sweat and don't wipe it off.

Im on the fence with the AR Vs 99 also. At this time, I think the AR is better for me. It will be my first .50, that being said, I dont think I could appreciate the extra polished feel that I would get from the Barrett. From what I have gathered, I can get a AR50 anywhere from $600-800 cheaper than the Barrett. I can buy a fairly decent optic and a few rounds of ammo for that price. Granted, the 99 does come with a 10x scope, but I was leaning toward a 20x SS. I have always liked the looks of the ar50, I know that shouldnt be a deciding factor, but it does look cool.

The AR50 looks nice, but come on, you can't beat the look of the M99!

I wish mine had that brake!    I have brake envy.
Me and my little 2 port.

Either way you go you will be happy.  They are both great rifles, but there is only one Barrett.

OK, here is one other reason I personally chose Barrett.  We all know he makes great rifles, but he is also a good person.  He takes great pride in what he does and in our 2nd Ammendment; and he decided to take the financially hurtful (to himself) decision to stop selling or servicing to any and all law enforcement and civil agencies in the state of California.

He did this as the state considered, and then did, ban the 50 cal BMG.  He took a stand with our rights, and I appreciate that and I appreciate him.

For me, that was the final reason I chose a Barrett above other brands.  Others may not agree with his decision, but for me, it is a sign that there are principled men still amongst us.

75273, very, very good point. That's a deal-sealer as well for me. If only EVERY gun manufacturer would do the same.

The fit, finish, and quality on the Barrett is exceptional.  Put the M99 next to an AR-50 and I bet you'll think the M99 looks better. And for the extra ~$500, you get a $300 case, a $300 scope, $150 scope rings, and a bipod (expect to spend over $150 for bipod).  I'm not a fan of the parkerized finish, skinny trigger, and the wiggle in the stock of the AR-50. The 4lb trigger on the M99 is awesome.  To me, the M99 looks sleek and sexy- the AR-50 is an awkward looking monstrosity.  But then again, the AR-50 is a tack driver, deals can be had on them, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. All IMHO!

I own and love my AR-50.  If there was one thing I could change about the gun, it would be the thickness of the grip.  I am sure that this isn't a problem for most people, but I have pretty big hands and pulling the trigger feels very unnatural to me.  The trigger is almost to my second knuckle when holding it normally.  (If you have a way to fix this, please HELP)

Other than that, no complaints.  Shoots well with cheap mil surplus ammo and powder.  Of course the higher priced stuff shoots even better.

The trigger can be adjusted like a Rem 700 (google to find out how) down to......ok don't have a trigger pull gauge, but lighter than stock.

The package from Knesekguns.com is a good deal.  I didn't get it at the time because I was on a budget.  Shooting from sandbags and storing it in a $20 case has worked out for me though.

Doesn't the AR-50 use an AR-15 type grip?

There were a couple of different companies that made a spacer to set the
AR-15 grip back 1/2" or so.  One was composite plastic and the other was aluminum.
IRRC JP Enterprises was one of the manufacturers.

It has the same style as the AR-15, but you can't bolt one on the .50 without some minor mods.  I really need it to be thicker.

Awesome video.  I just got my M99 but haven't shot it yet.  I have shot a friends M99 with the 2-chamber brake.  Only shot 8 rounds and two days later had a small scab on my right elbow- and that was on a wooden rest.  Just seeing your elbow on concrete looks painful.

Thanks.. and my elbow was only on the concrete for a few shots.  Once I realized that those red splotches appearing on the table was blood from my right elbow, I started resting my  elbow on one of my sandbags.

Yes, I took that video at American Shooting Center, on their 300 yard range.  You can't fire a .50 on any range shorter than their 300 yard line.  That's fine with me, because I generally try to stay away from shooting at 50/100 yards on any public ranges.. usually full of yahoo's that hit my target more then their own.  Once you're at 200+ yards at ASC, there are far fewer goofballs and no offical range officers.. so it's much like shooting at my private club in Pearland (tho I cannot shoot my 50 at that private club).

thats exactly what i thought when i bought a new M99 this afternoon.  :)

the case, scope, rings, and bipod really seal the deal.  also, when you look at heritage and resale value, nothing beats a Barrett.

Shooting the B99 is tits.  You dont feel the recoil when you squeeze off that 1 mile shot .  I did some shooting last week, and I had enough time to shoot the rifle prone, get up, and look through my binoculars right before the shot made it to the target.  Heres a pic of it in the NV desert with its favorite flower blankie .

Okay, how do you do that to make it come up in Media Player?  The way I have mine is linked to a website and and it plays on the website itself rather than Media Player.

I bought the AR50, price was right, got a great deal on the Prince bipod, monopod and replacement screw set, then bought 2 Super Snipers through the groupbuy here and bought a soft case to travel it to the range. Another factor was I wanted my family to be able to shoot the 50 comfortably, the AR was the way to go and here is a pic of mine
