Yesterday I fired my Marlin 336 in 30-30 at the range.
At 100 yards I was getting 2-2 1/2" groups with the 150gr Winchester ammo. I switched over to the Remington 150gr ammo and my groups were 5"-6". I went back to Winchester ammo and got 2" group. Went back to Remington ammo and got 5" group. Next I switched over to the Winchester 94 and same... 2-3" groups with Winchester ammo and 5-6" groups with Remington ammo. These were all new ammo I had purchased in last 3-4 weeks and each brand were all from same lot. Anybody else notice poor accuracy from recent Remington 30-30 ammo? |

I noticed that My Marlins tend to favor Handloads, Hornady, Winchester, Remington, then Ferderal in that order. Though I haven't tried Federal Fusion ammo yet,
My bolt action Savage likes Handloads, Federal, Winchester, and Remington in that order. Haven't tried any Hornady in the Savage. My ARs tend to hate Remington ammo. My Grandmother's Mauser in 7x57 loves Remington ammo. I guess it just depends on the gun and load. |

Every rifle is different. My 1952 M94 in .30-30 likes Winchester, Federal, and Remington factory loads all equally––150 and 170 gr. varieties. Also, it has responded well to a variety of handload combinations. In that regard, I guess I'm lucky.
My Remington Model 760 in .30-06 is much more picky. I'm sure your rifle is fine. Find a load that shoots well and stick with it.

Remington is shit ammo. Fine for plinking, not worth a crap for precision. I put a new scope on a buddy's rifle and he left me some Remington CoreLokts to sight it in with. At 100 yards I could barely keep it on a full size Redfield target. Went and picked up some Federal Premiums (which is pretty much the only ammo I shoot when I don't shoot handloads) and I was covering 3 and 5 shot groups with a quarter.
I haven't ran any Remington through my new Marlin 1894ss .44 mag but I've seen similar results with Remington pistol ammo in my Dad's S&W .41 mag so I stay away from Remington. |

Beside everything else one of the things I found to make a huge difference in most guns is the quality of the bullet.
The discount lines packaged to be the cheap stuff is generally pretty poor. An example of this in pistol ammo is Winchester white box and Rem umc In rifle the "premium" lines that have the better bullets are generally way better but you really need to shoot to find out. Reloads using Sierra (my go to for accuracy) or most any of the brand name bullets will generally be better if the reloader does his part I have some experience that shows the 30/30 is the single gun that most folks just shoot now and then and don't do a good job cleaning. I have grabbed a gun or two at my club and did a serious cleaning with a heavy duty copper solvent (sweets 7.62) and was a hero for my efforts. |
