Buddy is looking at a first suppressor for a small / light 5.56 suppressor for a 12.5 inch gun. I own a Turbo K RB and he's shot it, but also considering the GP5.

He has an Adjustable gas block like I do so back pressure isn't a
top concern. He's not chasing decibels but quieter is better.  Cost seems comparable. You have to buy the DT for YHM but you can also sell the included muzzle brake if you want.

Thoughts on GP5?  Any others to consider?

YHM Turbo K RB in direct thread:
10.5 oz
4.9 inches

Griffin Armament GP5
12.5 oz
6.25 inches

You can get the turbo without a muzzle device for a reduced price through Capital Armory. Save yourself the headache of selling.

From a balance perspective, the Turbo K is going to win being it is shorter and lighter. I really want to get a Griffin can in the future, but it will be a while. I love my Turbo K on my 12.5. It is shorter than my 16" with sRx flash hider on the end and sounds fantastic. I assume the GP5 will be a bit quieter due to added length, and the weight added isn't bad, but I think the Turbo K and a 12.5 is a great combo.

ETA: I'll add this. I almost can't tell the difference between my Turbo T2 and Turbo K when shot back to back on the same gun. Be careful chasing decibels caught by a meter. 2-4 decibels is barely distinguishable by my ear.

You can p&w the GP5 on a 12.5” barrel for a 1-stamp gun

The regional sales guys were in this week to headquarters to among other admin stuff update demo kits and do inventory audits for nfa compliance, and they shot it among several other newer cans.  They thought the GP7 which is one baffle longer than the Explorr .300 to get the 9.5 pin weld length of the original GP7, now outperforms the Recce 7.  They were pretty excited about the new GP series cans.

I have the older GP5 pinned and welded on a 10.5" jakl to get to 16".  No ragrets.
I dont really have expenience with the Turbo to make any sort of comparison.

Now 11.5 ounces, and still 6.25” overall length, capable of one stamp pin and welds on 10.4” or longer barrels.

Would it work to pin/weld onto an 11.5 MCX barrel? Downsides? Can the piston still be accessed?

Cool!  Nice upgrade.

Have you ever thought about selling this as a complete upper, maybe an 11.5" already P&W'd with a Snatch CH and properly tuned gas port (or your new adjustable when you get it into production)?

I never remove them so I get:

Several oz+ in weight savings and sometimes length savings depending on the QD method

you can get aggressive on gas management via AGB given it doesn't have to fire unsuppressed to reduce port noise and gas to face

I see the GP5 as a candidate for pinned and welded on a 10.5" or 11.5", for a legal 16" length and no SBR tax.
