of a website that sells a true bolt action .50 cal. upper for an AR15 lower?  My friend tried to tell me that the website is www.50calbmgar15conversion.com.  I have tried this in several configurations, but none seem to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try WWW.Serbu.com--Mark Serbu out of Tampa has just released a sweet upper version of his BFG 50.There is a 2---3 month waiting period for his BFG 50s,so I don't know how long on the BFG upper--but the weapon is proven, well tested and able to take a beating with minimal recoil!

The upper I think ldsteff is reffering to is the MAG-50 ( www.mmag.biz ) . This upper was designed by Mark Serbu and is a true bolt action upper. It is essentially a Serbu BFG-50 upper designed to be put on an AR lower. From what I understand, there is only a limited number that are going to be made and the waiting list is almost filled up.

Another true bolt action upper made to bolt onto a AR lower that you may want to check out is the Ferret 50 ( www.ferret50.com ). The wait time on one of these is several months but I hear that is getting better.

Anyway, hope this helps.........

TeamFerret gave an update here recently. 8-12 week lag time on the uppers. Also, he's working on a .408 CheyTac conversion and some other stuff. You can check out www.ferret50.com/ for pricing, etc.

Thank you all very much for the input.

Any feedback from Ferret or 50bmg..conversion owners would be greatly appreciated.  Also, does anyone have any experience with the mmag.biz product?

Thanks,

The ALS 50 is built right down the road from me. Looks like a good unit and Darren does nice work! Any reports I have gotten from local purchasers have been good.

White Horse,
There will be another 50cal fun shoot coming up (maybe November) in central Fl, you are more than welcome to join us. I will have two Ferret50s there and plenty of ammo. Ill post dates and location as soon as I can.

Also, my shop is in StCloud and I have a range 15 minutes from here. All visitors are welcome as is any excuse to get to the range.

I just got my Ferret50 with the 29" standard barrel and had a chance to try it out sunday. Workmanship looks very good. The welding (scope rail) is some of the best I've ever seen. Machine work is very excellent with no burrs or machine marks readily apparent. Accuracy with surplus ammo was pretty good. It does kick. A bit more than the Serbu I shot. The bolt works smoothly and locks up nicely. I had some no fires which may have been an ammo problem (surplus european stuff). I'll know better when some quality ammo arrives and I shoot it again.

I shoot some long range and I plan to shoot this from 300 out to 1000 yards or more, so I have a scope rail with some built moa elevation. If you are pretty sure you won't shoot really long ranges just get a flat scope rail because most long range scopes have enough EL adjustment to get you out pretty far.

In looking at the Ferret50 configurations, I see there are three barrel length choices.  What kind of accuracy difference can I expect from the 18" vs. 29" vs. 36" barrels?  Can any of them do sub-MOA groups (with the right ammo, optics, and operator)?  Will the 18" barrel get anywhere close to the 29" in terms of accuracy?  How much difference is there in felt recoil and muzzle blast?
TIA

Well you guys had to figure I would be chiming in here to cheer on the Ferret50.

I have the 36 inch ferret50 and I absolutely love this thing. The ferret has a very high grin factor. I can't give you a real accuracy report as I have been swapping scopes around and haven't put a decent scope on it yet. I will say that with a cheap 3x9 at 100 yards it seems to be pretty damn accurate though. I have no problems recommending a Ferret50 upper if you are interested in a bolt action upper.
