Duracoat day 2. I am experimenting with a multiple color lizard skin camo pattern.

Here is the gun I started with. Rem 870 rattle can paint job.

After cleaning off the old paint I sprayed it OD Green as a base coat.

Let that set overnight and then applied my "stencil"

I used a bag you carry sports equipment in. Wrapped the gun and using clothes pins clipped it in place and masked off the places I didn't want paint.

The next coat was ACU Grey Green followed by Mirage Lizard stripes.

This is the result.

As you can see it's not perfect but I learned a lot from this test that will help with a couple of more intense project coming up.

I think it looks great, you say you learned a lot. What would you say was the most important thing you learned? The reason I ask, is because I've been wanting to do a snakeskin pattern for quite a while now. What would you do differently? Also being that you painted the rifle assembled, are there missing spots, etc that you would/could have done differently? Thanks for sharing, it looks great to me.

1st thing I learned was the $3 equipment bag works good. But I tried to clip it in place and that left gaps. For my next test I will get some stencil adhesive and see if I can cut and "form" it to the gun better. In the last pic you can see the top of the foreend the pattern doesn't pick up well. When I put the OD base coat on I disassembled the rifle and painted each piece separatly. When I applied the other coats I did it all assembled so the pattern would be consistent.

I have a Glock / Blackside combo that is gonna get the treatment next.

Good Luck

Good Job! I look forward to seeing the next project.

Some inspiration here:
GCNW HK VIPER

It looks as good in person as it does in the photos.

Thanks for the tips. I'm thinking of doing a shotgun as my next project. I didn't realize GCNW was local to me. Time to pay them a visit and check them out. Thanks for the link.
