As I posted a little while back I toured the MSAR factory and purchased an E4 from the man himself (through a local FFL). I have been fingering the beauty for a few weeks now because my range was closed for hunting season, well today she got to go to town. I brought her up to the range and fed her some IMI M193 and decided to put her on paper and see where she was hitting.

Set up at 25 yds and using a semi secure bench I found her elevation to be perfect but 8" left. Two rounds later she was hitting in the orange dead center, five rounds after that and the center was destroyed. OK, lets see what 100 brings, after a couple rounds to get the elevation where I wanted it the damned thing did something I didn't expect. The same thing as 25, destroyed center with a couple just outside.

OK, off the bench she is a shooter. This was really not entirely a surprise but I was very pleased with the result. Let's try off hand at steel plates. We have 8" circles and squares at ranges 25-50-75-100-150-175 and 200. I took turns on the plates and did not miss one off hand standing. Holy kerfuck, Batman does this thing shoot nice. 3 mags later I was smiling and ready to faint. I have had way more than my fair share of AR's and I can honestly say that if they shot like this I would have kept them. The only ones I've owned that can compare are my LMT's and one Bushmaster that was an anomoly. My buddies Noveske does pretty well, too.

Take her home to get her cleaned up and was very pleasantly surprised how easy it was to do so, takedown is getting easier with time and after the barrel and gas system was done the BCG was just a wipe down...wooo hooo. Back together and mags reloaded with IMI M193 and we're ready for any eventuality. Damn, good move for once.

What did I like best?  Accuracy and pointability were exceptional, trigger was good (better than I thought i would be), no problems with feeding from PMags and GI mags.

What does it need? I'd like to see a recessed area on the Bolt Carrier with texturing ala HK93 for the ability to push the bolt home after a press check. Other than that...great weapon and another convert. I use an AR at work (issued RRA) but this has taken the center stage at home.

That's what you get with good production methods and parts manufactured to tight tolerances.

No pics from that session, it was impromptu and short. I will post a pic as soon as I get one of the gun.

Nice, did you get Black or OD Green?  MSAR optic or rail?

Black 16" with optic as fired but have the rail for future optic applications as well as a STG Gen IV stock for nostalgia.

Do PMAGS drop free from it? Congrats on your satisfaction with the rifle. I want one something fierce, but I have to wait for a bit.

Nice review.  I've designated a portion of my tax return to purchase an E4, if I ca wait that long.

The E4 does not allow mags to drop free but the exchange is done quickly by grasping the mag as you engage the release and pulling it out. Not really an issue to me.

Added - did some dry run entries today with the rest of the guys, Lt said he would look the other way if I brought the E4 as long as he had a go. Most of the guys tried it and to a man they commented on how fast it was going through a structure, much faster feeling than an AR.Especially since the few issued here are 16". The whole idea is weapon control and keeping it close to the body. The one comment that stuck out was "why didn't we look at these when we were looking into patrol rifles" they really are ideal for that with the full ballistic advantage in a short envelope.

The more I handle and fire this thing the more I like it.

Took her out today and ran through some drills after sighting in the Centurion HK sights. God-awful fast on target at 10-50m with those sights set on the V notch, accurate at 200m on the '2' setting hitting a 8" steel gong repetitively. No fumbles or hiccups in nearly 200 rds fired (all IMI M193) and mag changes are getting smooth as it is breaking in. All shooting was done during intermittent heavy snow squalls in about 28 degree weather. I figured since it was designed by people who live in the Alps (visited in 1987,it is beautiful) it ought to be fine and it was. I shot only with the irons as I am saving for an Aimpoint but for a CQB weapon it is ideal even set up as so.The HK sights are usable on snap shots due to their design and are pretty accurate doing so.

How is the muzzle blast with the break installed.  What kind of break is it?  Just realized your a LEO.  Your set-up makes me want a rail.

before I retire I will brake it ( FSC556 ) but it will probably be a 20" to keep it away from my face. I had the optic and the rail, these sights on the rail are great.
