Is there a way to properly measure your torso find out the correct size fitment for a Maritime CIRAS? I have read somewhere here in the forum that the main difference is the size of the plate. How about the torso circumference?

Is there a big difference between Large and Extra Large CIRAS? I hate to order the wrong size. I know I won't fit in Medium. So it will have to be between L and XL.

I'm 5' 6'" and is on the heavier side (200 lbs).

Someone probably knows better than me but the carriers are adjustable for both height and girth.  The only difference is the size of the plate.  I read somewhere you go with 1 size smaller than your tshirt size.  Take it all with a grain of salt though.

Negative.

CIRAS (as well as RAV, FSBE(I/II), RBAV, SPEAR, Spartan (I/II), etc) sizing is referring to the soft armor size.  These carriers all use the BALCS-cut soft armor panels.  So, a small CIRAS will need small BALCS armor, but can fit a medium or large plate (but not XL plates).  A medium CIRAS will fit medium BALCS and S-XL plates, etc, etc.

I am 5'8", 145-150 lbs and have a 30" waist.  I run a medium CIRAS land and medium CIRAS maritime.  Both are adjusted to the smallest settings.  They do not interfere with my belt kit.  I got the medium because medium BALCS were all that was available at the time and I didn't have time to wait around for smalls.  I could probably run a small and be fine, but I would sacrificing lower torso coverage since the small has one less row of PALs (M-XL have the same amount of PALs).

Judging by your height to weight ratio, I imagine that you are carrying a bit more in the belly than me (or you have a few steel plates in your head).  The adjustable girth on the medium would fit you fine.  As for height, I cannot say, but I would imagine that the medium would be ok, but you might end up with a bit of interference with belt kit.

Just remember, if you are going to run a full armor carrier, you need to get the soft armor too.  Otherwise, you might as well get a plate carrier.

Trial and error was my friend.  Without doing the right amount of research, I picked up a size Large CIRAS for a song off a different site.  Figured, well, I wear a large in most everything, sizing should be the same.  BUZZZ wrong answer!

I am 5'11, 185 and I have a medium.  There is a BUNCH of adjustment left in case I eat four pizzas a day for the next year.

Do some checking....the smallest settings on the Large still flopped around on me.

I was thinking of ordering a Large size because of my eherm.... a bit bigger belly. In reading the responses, it looked like Medium will fit me just fine. I was afraid of ordering a size that is bigger. I don't want it flapping around.

I am getting the CIRAS first. Then when fund allows my next purchase, it will be for the soft armor insert. Then plates for later.

Thanks folks. I will place and order for a Medium.

Just a head's up; the CIRAS, like any armor carrier will fit differently without the panels and plates.  Since it was designed to be worn with the armor, you probably will not get the propper fit until you have the whole package assembled.

If money is a factor for now, you can get some airsoft REPLICA plates to hold the shape until you gather funds.

The medium will fit you. I'm 5'10" / 180 pounds and my medium CIRAS fits perfect, with plenty of adjustment left for pizza/beer/McD. If you pick a large it WILL interfere with anything on your belt, might even jab your throat when siiting down. You don't want that.

Try THIS LINK and click on the BALCS panel dimension diagram.  It's the best I could come up with for sizing of BALCS cut armor.
