We are working to get ELCAN scopes available through AR15.com, and would like to get an idea of the interest you guys and girls would have in buying them. These are top-notch scopes, and I would love to make them available so let's hear what kind of interest there is so I can finalize a deal if there is enough interest!

11/6/01- See the top of page 2 for details...

I was wondering how this was going JLA. Glad to hear it is coming together. I think it will be a great partnership for AR15.com.

What kind of $ figure are we talking about?

I've been wanting one but money is kinda tight right now.

What kinda price are you talking about and how soon?

Hey! I'm interested...oh waitaminute!!! I bought two!

Striker is this the same guy that supplied my Elcans?

I'm VERY VERY happy with the purchase.

Would be some interest here..depending on $$$

Elcan's are phenomenal scopes.

I would be interested if you have one with the Gen 4 .223 base, but with the .308 Base, I would be REALLY interested.  I thought they were a little heavy (but very solid) on my FNC, and I want to try them on my FAL's.

If this lifts off, I can only recommand them wholeheartly. Already have a 5.56mm calibrated gen4 Elcan sitting on my 20" AR.

Have some pics in my albums(check profile). And a review of the sight on my homepage

members.ams.chello.nl/b.kuiper/new_page_2.htm

The manuals section contains both civilian/LEO instructions as well as Canadian military leaflets. There are problems DL'ing the other manuals but these work.

How much??

I would definitely be interested.  For those of us who already have (at lreats) one, please consider sourcing the latest (Gen.4) mounts separately.

[#10]
I would be interested in this. Especially if we were able to get both .223 and .308 models.

Will there be something special... or price break, or something?

No offense... but most of the merchandise run through the site has been a little on the high side.

Other than the LEGP, which was a GREAT deal.

The knives, Gallatti cases, and range bags I considered all were available for 20-30% cheaper elsewhere..  of course, without the AR15.com signage.  To some, getting that name embroidered is worth the extra dough.  It wasn't to me.

What kind of deal will this be?  Some sort of power group purchase, or just a fair price, with AR15.com engraving?

Not meaning to sound negative, just wondering.

Depending on the $$$, I would be interested. I have an AAR-10A4 that needs optics.

Yes Waverunner,it is. I'm glad to hear you are happy with the scope's despite that moron quoting you the price in Canadian dollarsBTW he was severely beaten with a wet noodle for his indiscretion.
I never did hear from NYShooter or Ronin45.

I would be interested in another one.  I bought my first ELCAN C79 for $300 new on ebay a month ago. I doubt I will ever find another one for that price though.  These are sweet scopes!

If the price is good, I'd take a .308. Shoot, it was worth me comin' out of lurk mode for. Oh, make sure CCs will be accepted, and the likelyhood of participation goes up.

Here are the Minimum Advertised Prices that ELCAN allows anyone to sell these scopes, they will be our prices through AR15.com (with a minimum 10 ordered):

ELCAN 3.4x (.223 calibration)          $699

ELCAN 3.4x (.308 calibration)          $719

ELCAN 3.4x XM145 (.308 calibration)    $1189

ELCAN 6x HIMAG (.223 calibration)      $1197

ELCAN 6x HIMAG (.308 calibration)      $1217

Unless otherwise specified, pricing will expire on December 31, 2001. I have been informed that there will likely be a price increase at that time, so get your orders in now!!!

"Designed to withstand a drop of 1.5 meters (5 ft.) onto concrete while attached to an 8 kg (17.6 lb.) weapon, as well as being certified waterproof to 10 metres for 2 hours, the ELCAN is the most robust sight in it's class. In addition, the ELCAN optics come from the same production line that grinds Leica, Panavision, and IMAX lenses; as well as sattelite imaging systems. Most users find that the exceptional clarity and light gathering ability of the lenses allow the sight to be used effectively in extreme low-light situations. This is of course augmented by the tritium-lit reticle which glows a light green in near dark conditions. These factors make this sight extremely desireable to tactical users. The ELCAN now also benefits from a newly-designed GEN4 mount assembly."

Here is the info on the XM145 and the 6X Himag.
Regarding the XM145:

This sight was designed for, and purchased by, the United States Army for
use on M240 and M249 Machine Guns. It differs from the standard unit in the
following ways:

-Instead of using a beta light, the center of reticle is illuminated by a
L.E.D. This of course requires a battery. There is a knob on the left side
of the scope to adjust reticle brightness. As it was designed for the US
Army, that knob requires the hand strength of a rodeo cowboy to turn it.
-The standard unit has all ballistic compensation in the mount, where the
XM145 has a ranging and ballistic compensating reticle.
-Instead of using the wingnuts to tighten the unit to the weapon, the XM145
uses  the US Army Torque Knob.
-The front of the unit is fitted with a killflash unit.
-Although US Army units come equipped with a laser filter, that feature is
unavailable to the civilian market.
-The XM145 uses floppy rubber lens covers which manually fold up out of the
field ov view. The standard ELCAN relies on a nylon scope cover that covers
the complete optical tube. The nylon cover is sold separately from the sight.
-There are currently VERY few XM145 sights available to the commercial market.

Regarding the 6x HiMag unit:

-The magnification is nominally 6x as opposed to the 3.4x of the standard
ELCAN.
-The unit is considerably larger, both in length and in objective lens
diameter, than the standard unit.
-The HiMag uses the standard mount.
-The reticle is the standard picket with horizontal stadia.
-No lens covers are currently available.
-The major production was for a western European country. A very small
number are being made available to the US market.

The place JLA got the deal from is the same place that supplies all the offical Elcan retailers. I'd be surprised if we do better.
