Tomac was nice enough to let me borrow is RX30 - I am so used to an Eotech on my PS90 - that I just can't get used to a single dot (like the RX30 or an Aimpoint). For me, it takes longer to find, and I tend to move it more in CQC than I do with the larger EOtech reticle.

Anyway - I think I will buy another EOtech for my MSAR - just a matter of the XPS or a 512/517 model.

The XPS reportedly will co witnesses exactly - does the 512 cowitness exactly too, or does it 1/3 co witness. I did see that the 517 does the 1/3 cowitness - but apparently this is because of a built in riser. So, that should put the 512 and the XPS at the exact same height, correct?

I found the stock MSAR optic to sit too low for me. I don't want to have the same issue if the XPS sits lower than a standard EOtech....

The 512 will not cowitness 1/3 unless you get a riser. As for the XPS I "think" that they will not 1/3 cowitness. I may be wrong as I have not used one yet.

I have the 512 on mine. It's the standard height top rail. I have the E4 top rail on order as I have to raise my head a bit too much to get the circle-n-dot into view with the standard STG rail.

Ok, thanks for the info. I guess I am just used to the higher optic on the PS90.

I ordered some Magpul back up sights - now I just have to figure out which EOtech I want. I am not happy with the 511 battery life that I already have - so I know I'll have to go a different route.

The new XPS may be less likely to drain the batteries when off like the older models - is what I am thinking. But, AA batteries ARE more common (512 model)

Every eotech that doesn't have a riser will have an absolute co-witness.

As far as the xps goes, according to the EOTech users on the boards, it is the new standard for EOTechs in performance and toughness

My XPS is mounted directly to my rail.  It has a perfect co witness with standard height, folding, TROY buis.  I must admit that I really like it.  It is fast.

What’s the advantage of a 1/3 co witness?

A lower third co witness gives you a less cluttered view through the optic window
