Everyone seems to be out of stock of 20 round FAL magazines. Does anyone know where I can find 20 or 30 round FAL magazines? THe lowest price would be great, but at this point I just want them to be in stock. |
|
Try the Sportsmens Guide. 3 weeks ago I bought 6 IMI mags for $89. I called the day after to order more and they were out of stock until the next week. I waited to order and they'd gone up to $129 for 6. I still bought them since they're getting so hard to find.
They look refinished to me, with black enamel. All work just fine, no dents, some just have a little thick paint so they need to be worked in. |

Try Springfield Armory Online store.
http://www.springfield-armory.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=311 Its listed as SAR4800 (a Brazilian FAL) mag, but what it really is are Israeli Magazines, very high quality. Right now its $19, which is way too much IMO. 2 months ago and 5 months ago there were a big sale on these Israeli magazines, and were $13 each, all these are still in wrap, very very much new and packed with cosmoline. Buy 4 and it will still be in the original oil paper packaging. Israelis packed them in groups of 4. |

Five years ago, I was able to buy surplus German (STG-58?) FAL magazines for $5 each, ten for $40. They used to be pretty cheap.
What accounts for the soaring prices? The FAL is a relatively expensive rifle, appealing to the high end of the market. Has there been a huge growth in FAL ownership? Or did a major magazine producer get out of the market? I know of only two other rifles that take that magazine, the Bushmaster .308 AR (is it still made?) and the new KelTec RFB bullpup. Both are examples of what I would call "boutique" rifles, not commonly owned. I don't think Bushmaster is still making the .308, and the KelTec RFB's are practically hand-made, so few of them are on the market. |

The Rock River LAR-8 takes FAL mags.
During my 1 year,10 month wait for this rifle ,I bought 10 Steyer (20rd.) mags, new in wrap for $113 plus shipping, from DSA, in 2008.Now they are impossible to find in northern Ohio! I'm sure glad I took Bro-in-laws advise to buy when I did. Now I'm looking for a 5rd FAL mag for hunting... |

Kind of thinking about one of those since I've got a few extra FAL mags put back. |

In Dec 2008 I bought a beat up FAL and 60 mags for $500. Looks like I did ok. Yes, yes you did. Especially considering that was during the Obongo gun craze. You could triple your money on that deal pretty easily. As was mentioned every so often Springfield has a sale on Israeli mags. They're advertised as used but the 2 times I've bought from them they have been new, wrapped in wax paper. IIRC were about $12/ea. Also I've picked up some at others online for around that price but it's become fewer and farther between. I have enough now that I can afford to be choosy since $20 is more then I'll pay for a surplus FAL mag. Allegedly RRA& DSA will eventually produce new FAL mags. |
| When I bought my first fal from dsa, I recall the steyr mags being $3.50 each. I bought about 40 and mailed them out to be reparked. I knew the price would increase because nobody makes them anymore. If no country uses the fal, who's gonna be making them? Wait till those cheap g3 mags disappear.... |

Try TDWsales. www.tdwsales.com They show 10 packs for $129 Those are metric
(so i assume the 10pack deal is metrics too) You know metric mags work in inch pattern FAL's, right? It just doesn't work the other way around. Quoted:

Last week while I was cleaning out my basement I found 2 boxes of New-In-Wrap FAL mags marked FN Belgium 1963. I remember paying $20 a box for them, that would make them $2 each I think. Wanna double your money?
Seriously, I bought one of the NIW ten packs when they were all the way up to $60. I wish I had bought four or five more. |
| It looks like someone over at FAL files is in the process of creating metric mags. He states that according to one of the reps that the Rock River mags being worked on will not work in a Fal receiver. Here is the link http://www.falfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?s=1bdb64fff7786bd36e1df0133ecb53e9&threadid=285655&perpage=50&pagenumber=1 I don't know how to make it hot. It sounds like his new mags hold some promise. Let's hope |

Has anybody here ever purchased FAL mags from these guys? Are they (the vendor and the mags) GTG? I just purchased my first FAL (DSA Imbel) and I am starting from scratch with the mags. I want to order the 10 pack. Thanks. |

What accounts for the soaring prices? The FAL is a relatively expensive rifle, appealing to the high end of the market. Has there been a huge growth in FAL ownership? Or did a major magazine producer get out of the market? The heyday of the FAL in America is over. The only reason the rifle ever really became popular here in the first place is because of cheap ammo/parts kits/magazines- a once in a generation coincidence. There was a time not long ago when you could build one for under $500- that made it half the price of the only other readily available .308 battle rifle- duh huh they were popular. Go take a look at the shell of a website that is the Fal Files- it has HALF the forums it did in it's "golden era". Now with the barrel ban, higher priced ammo, little in the way of cheap surplus parts etc...and only one real domestic producer they are going up in price. No great surprise and alot of guys looking at paying $1,200 for a new Fal say, "Well hell, I'll just buy an M1a for that money". They were primarily a cheaper substitute for the M1a for most users in this country. Not saying they are a bad rifle, I own several but that's just how it came down in my opinion. |
|
Received my 10 pack today from TDW. Moderate to heavy finish wear, but no dents and the feed lips are straight on all of them. Minor surface rust on one mag only. I may or may not refinish them. Overall, I am very satisfied with the mags. Not a bad deal for someone like myself who is starting with nothing but the one mag that came with the rifle. |

If the government really did pick up the REPR I would think it'd be in Magpuls interest to do so. Which REPR? I did not know there was a "REPR" rifle that used FAL mags. I'd like to know too I keep seeing this posted online but I have yet to see any REPR take FAL mags... |

Yeah, I did some internet research when I saw this post a while back on the REPR –– I'm pretty sure the reference is to the LWRC REPR rifle, and I'm also pretty sure it takes SR25/DPMS type magazines, at least that's what LWRC sells on their web site (as Magpul PMAGs). The only other autoloading .308 rifles I'm aware of using FAL mags are the Keltec RFB and the RRA LAR-8. It would still be nice if Magpul started making FAL mags, though. :) |

I bought some surplus mags but they are ugly, dented, bent, and 6 out of 8 actually work. I would love to have some new production mags. |

Over on the Falfiles a member did a test on a few of the Korean FAL mags and reported they worked great. |

I was going through my cabinets and out came a box that was just full of FAL. metric mags with about ten Thremolds in there as well. I wish I had gotten more of them (steel mags) when I had my P.O.S. Centyry FAIL.
And no don't ask, I am not selling em. I am stilling wanting to cradle another FAL. in my arms and call it mine (Must Resist) |

Just a stupid related question.....what happened to the surplus mags?? Some executive order? Really just dried up (hard for me to believe this....still must be tons of the out there somewhere).
I also have a hard time believing that there has been that much increased demand. I would figure that they would import more. Kinda like AK mags. Just curious. Doc |

People bought them all. |

Doc I think a lot of it had to do with speculation and potential use in other platforms i.e. RFB, LAR 8, etc. And they were ridiculously cheap. What's frustrating is reading about people who have "hundreds of mags" yet don't own a FAL or anything that takes FAL mags.
In before HURR DURR BECAUSE I CAN!!! DURRRRRRRRR |
