| Does anyone make magpulls for the FAL? Any home rolled designs? |
|
I guess you could buy the ones Magpul makes, like the guy above gave a link for?
or make you own, from oh let's say duct tape (aka 100-mph tape) and/or para cord? Or are you thinking more like Magpul Ranger plates or "L-plates" Sort of like on the SCAR-17 mags. |

I tried some 550 cord loops with the inner white strings pulled out, knots in the ends, and slipped under the floorplates for awhile. While a neat idea, in reality when pulling a mag out of a pouch quickly or out of a tight pouch, the loops could theoretically pull the floorplate off. A FAL floorplate is a bit flimsy, like a GI AR mag. Unlike an AR-15 mag, a loaded FAL mag is heavy, and bending the floorplate is easy if you yank the mag out of the pouch sharply.
I guess using 550 cord with duct tape holding the cord inside one of the grooves in the mag body would work, but I hate the stickiness that duct tape leaves. It also can make the mags stick together, so you end up pulling 2 or more mags out of a tight pouch at a time. At best it's a fumble-fingered operation bobbling 2 mags. At worst, you end up dropping one or more mags in the dirt/concrete/whatever. I had good luck using bicycle inner tube strips to hold 550 cord to the mag body of AR mags, and maybe it'll work on a FAL mag. It would keep rattling to a minimum, but again the mags would sometimes grip each other in the pouch. |

The cords withdrew from under the tape due to the weight of the magazine. I'm not sure using alloy mags would help (only 4 ounces saved). The glue took off the black enamel as well. No problem with mags sticking together, though. |

The 7.62mm map-pulls Magpul makes are the same for M1A/M14 and FAL mags, and likely HK G3 mags too. They stretch and will conform to any 7.62mm /.308 mag.
They add some girth to the bottom circumference of the mags, so your mags with these may or may not fit into what ever pouch your using. If your pouches are tight with just the plain mags in them then using magpuls are going to make it even worse, I'd say they add about 3/16" to 1/8" and each of the four sides. They look just like the AR15 mag mag-pull Magpul makes, just larger to fit around the larger mag. Look on Magpuls site. I'm thinking what you really want is the Magpul "Ranger Plates", which I don't believe they make for anything other then AR type mags. I Guess one might take these and pop-rivet them to the floor plate of an FAL mag. But then you might just take some 1/2" or 3/8" nylon webbing strips (or inner tube) of and pop-rivet these to the bottom front and back of the FAL mag. Although it might make removing the floor plate a bitch. Use some small washers to keep the webbing from pulling off the rivets. This would at lest not add any width to the mags, just a little to the length. |

Any pics of the magpul version? Anybody put them on FAL mags? I've been using on my FAL mags for years, and they haven't given me any issues. As a bonus, they make FAL mags fit perfectly in (used to be cheap and plentiful) ALICE 30rd M16 magazine pouches. |

You have them in each color. I think will go with OD. Thanks |
