Im looking to attach a VFG to my FAL. I have standard firegrips on it now.

Id really like to for go buying a multi hundred dollar rail forearm system, and Id like to just bolt a piece of rail to the bottom of the grip (like I do with my ARs).
But Im pretty sure it wouldnt work because its 2 pieces.

Any one have any solutions?

Well, if you want to go cheap just to see how you like it, i suggest this one from amazon. i can not attest to its quality. I have DSA's which is a tad bit more :)

This is the one!   Its lighter than DSAs    add rails as you see fit it comes with a bunch.   Perfect fit.   VLTOR VAFC

I have a DSA rail and love it. I do not like the look of the Vltor rail and it is expensive anyway. The UTG rail is inexpensive and looks good but does not line up with the DSA flat top

As far as adding a rail to stock handguards, it can be done. I made a metal plate to fit inside the handguards that fit at the bottom and spanned across the two halves and another plate to fit outside placed the same way and sandwiched the plates with bolts that held them to the handguard. I attached a grip to the outside plate.

If you just want a cheap way to add a grip then the UTG rail is your best bet.

I just bought a DSA rail but the bipod is a bitch to remove. I stripped one of the screws on my new DSA SA58.

What height ring do you use on your DSA scope mount? I would like to use my Bushnell 3-9x40mm scope on my DSA SA58, but was not sure on the ring height.

I've had FAL's for years, I never considered the Vltor due to cost. I finally bought one, holy crap it the BEST thing made for the FAL. Nothing compairs, nothing. Light weight, modular, configurable, feels great to the hands, good cooling, intergrates with the FAL like a modern weapon.

Just the thoughts of a 20 year FAL owner/builder, who got the Vltor last year.

ETA: I also have the DSA long style scope mount which "marries" up to the Vltor rail. Very clean indeed.

Are either the the DSA or the VLTOR fore-end rails sufficiently anchored to the rifle to allow it to be used for an optic, such as a scope, for long-distance shooting.  IOW, are either of them a rock-solid base for scope mounting?

I run a T-1 on the front end as far back as possible.  Absolutely no issues here.

Any reason you can't attach one of those small Magpul rail sections to the bottom of the handguards? They only weigh a few ounces and are very inexpensive. Makes more sense than dropping a ton of cash on a heavy rail to attach to an already heavy rifle.

The whole point of the Vltor system is that it's not heavy.

The Vltor is by far lighter than the DSA but it is not as strong.  The DSA rail is designed for the 203 and as such is more beefy than the Vltor and I think mounts more securely.  The Vltor is still a fantastic rail and very comfortable, and I really like it and enjoy the modularity that it offers.

As for a rail to just mount a AFG or just a grip we sell a Rail Accessory Panel that is specifically designed to work with the FAL traditional handguards.  The part number is H4355

Thanks, Mike

I assume all of the rail systems require the removal of the handguard ring, correct? I know the DSA does.

Vltor uses the HG ring.

Another +1 for the Vltor.  I had the DSA rails and sold them to fund the Vltor.  Very glad I did.  Didn't have to remove the HG ring, lighter, more customizable, and they feel better in your hand if you to have to palm the gun.

Spend a little extra and get the Vltors.

Any comments on the DSA and Vltor mounts' suitability for mounting Scout Scopes or other forward-mounted optics would be of interest.  Most anything will do for a short to middlin range red dot, but my interest is in mounting a a scout scope that will serve out to 5-600 yds or so, so if either mount is more solidly mounted than the other, that would be good info.

Posted a pic earlier, but the VLTOR is the way to go on that one.  Just be sure youve got a good optic/mount combo.

Go to the ACE sight, pics are there. You will need a standard FAL lower. You remove the recoil spring tube and the block bolts in its place. At that point you can either bolt the stock directly to the block or first the folding block then the stock.

I put one of these on my Argy FALs handguards for a Bipod mount, since my barrel is not a bipod model, works great though I did have to dremel a bit off of the screw length
http://www.dsarms.com/SA58-FAL-Tactical-Accessories-Picatinny-Rail----H4355/productinfo/H4355/ Works GREAT, and adds minimal weight, and doesnt change its classic FAL lines much

Burris 2-7x pistol scope and Leupold QRW rings--height to be determined.  Should be NO problem with the optics/rings.

I have the DSA rail as well, and honestly Im not all that impressed. As for whether or not the rail is solid enough to serve as a stable platform for say a a long piece of glass, I think we all know asking a front rail to handle a scope mount for a precision optic is a pretty tall order anyway, I'd say no chance is the DSA rail up to the task if your talking about serious shooting at distance.

Compared to something like the way guys run their mk12 mod0's where most shooters add a full length one piece riser and then go to their optic I don't see how you could even compare this full length setup to that, or something like a full length KAC.

short answer no, at least not for what I would consider acceptable.
