There are ways to get rid of the ugly.  Shop around for either a wood fore end and butt stock or get an Israeli LB stock set.

Yes, the ugly guns need loving too but a little make up never hurts.

With open sights, what kind of accuracy have you guys been seeing out of your FALs?

FAL's will suck the money out of your wallet in the form of ammo............

As far as accuracy, I have absolutely no problem worrying the hell out of a 8"x11" steel plate at 300 yards with iron sights standing up.

As far as beauty, well, it's in the eye of the beholder......

I Know what you mean!  I HATE my DSA FAL.  As a matter of fact, I've started an organization to "dispose" of ugly no good FAL's as a public service - I'll even pay the shipping - Just send all your ugly no good FAL's to me and I'll see that they are "disposed of properly!

(Hey Hank! - If you can drag yourself away from that neophyte gun-talk website long enough - I'd just like to say - Thanks for selling me that ugly no good FAL!

Below - Juggernaut tries to steal my ugly no good FAL!

Hmm, ship my new ugly FAL to you?  Thanks.  I just might take you up on that.  Now, take a  DEEP breath.........................

Gee who couldn't resist an 80 pound battle rifle. This is why the Euro's never win a war, the Goddamn rifles are too heavy to pick up and shoot.

Mine is dead nuts on at anything out to 300 yards with the stock irons, and probably farther than that but 300 is as far as I've tried to shoot without an optic.  I tried to scope it and see what it would do, but I don't have the right locking mount. Ironically, I shot a much better 100 yard group with irons than I did when I had a scope on it.

Edited to add: the best groups I've gotten have been with portugese surplus, but I've saved a couple of boxes of black hills match .308 for when I get some stable glass on it... then we'll see what she can really do.

As far as accuracy I can get consistant five shot groups of 1.3 to 1.5 inches at 100 yards. Sometimes all five shots will be touching. But after a couple mags the groups open up to 3 to 4 inches.

Camel,

PLEASE tell me those groups are off the bench using the scope.   Or tell me you're under thirty and a great shot.  With the irons today, I'd have to say 5 inch groups were about what I was shooting.  I'd hate to think I suck THAT bad.

I'm in love with them, and I've never even shot one!  The DSA SA58 Congo Para will be mine!

I wish I could shoot those groups off hand. They where from the bench with scope.

Off hand I'll hit the paper plate every time and i'm happy. With the scope and mount that rifle gets heavy.

I am under 30, but don't know how good of shot I am. LOL

Xanadu

I hate to be the one to tell you - your program isn't working.

The first FAL I ever fired was YOURS at the BRC.  I was hitting the 450 yard target most of the time with iron sights just messing around(remember when the scope fell off? hehe).

I just fired MY new DSA STG58 last weekend at the first Alaska AR15.com shoot.  It took a while, but I finally got one.

Hey Blade,

I don't blame Xanadu for trying.   For all he knew I was serious.  And getting a FAL for cheap is always cool.

Problem is - I BE KIDDING!.

I like this thing.  Gonna go to range tomorrow and try to get it broke in enough to cycle on 3-4 gas setting.  Gotta dig out some other ammo tyo try too.

HA! fixed it with Mallninja.com superhostingpowers.

I locktighted the scope ring mounts on the FAL, and at the Great Southern Freedom Shoot I was putting round number 387 down the range when everything went Black. The guts on the scope let go and was instant trash.  I let my kids dissect it and keep the optics for their experiments.

JBC - FWIW, my FAL runs on 6.  I've had to change it only 1 time, and that was after 400 rounds (same shoot) with no cleaning.

So my FAL is scopeless, but hey it's ready for battle-mode instead of Long-distance.

Xanadu,

Hmm, 6 on the gas.  I do have the carbine and maybe that is part of it.  And, maybe part is what the factory guy said - break it in a bit.  Cause I think any surplus military ammo ought to be OK.

But, tomorrow off to see the wizard, err, range.  Gonna loose 100-200 rounds and break her in proper.

Ummm, FALs weigh 9.5 lbs (without mag), give or take depending on configuration.  Not much more than an 20" A2 HBAR

I'm with biteworks13; I love the way the FAL looks. I shot my first one last summer and immediately started shopping. My DSA Stg58T2 is on backorder, but I should have it in a month.
