Well here goes my first post
What do you guys know about fa convered mini 14s…. I like the ac 556 and while I have been pricing them I have come across several non factory full auto rugers.. There happens to be one on strum right now. So kinda like the recent thread about how you rank rr m16s how would you rate the mini 14’s Who made them? what are the different styles? how do the different styles work? which ones are considered to be the best ? If I went that route instead of an ac what should I watch out for? My main reason for considering them is price. Thanks and I know its a lot of questions for a first post. |

I asked about this not too long ago as I came across a steal on one. ( I missed out |
| yea i feel at there asking price usually they arn't worth buying but I dont see them moving so I think a cash money offer could get them significantly cheaper... i just wish there was a way to learn a little more about how they work before i was to buy one..... but there is little to no information about the different conversion styles.... any body have a good diagram of how a m14 works from what i have found the mini conversions that basically mimic the m14 and even use the same op rod on the side are the best. |

As a owner of a AC556k, for several years, I too looked at the converted Mini-14's They were a lot less money, and if memory serves me right, I think the only difference between and AC and the conversion was that they only had FA and SEMI, No 3 round burst. Now the reason I bought the AC vs the MINI, was I wanted a folding stock and I wanted factory support. The folding stock models look so much better. As far as service or anything like that, as of the first of this year, Ruger no longer services AC556's of any type. They have no parts left, so the AC556 and and any Mini conversion are now just like most other FA MG or SMG's where parts are scarce. I went out and bought some insurance and purchase a complete parts kit for my AC ( a demilled post sample gun ). I'm sure getting some service and parts for the future for any FA Ruger, will depend on somebody picking up a business and making some parts. I have a S&W 76, and have found a couple of shops that are making parts especially high wear items. I also own a Browning ANM2 .30 Beltfed, but nobody is making parts for them. So if I was you, and want to save some money, get a conversion. I have never heard of one that wasn't reliable. |
