I'm thinking about renewing my membership in the FCSA,after a ten year absence. To those of you who are members, are their website forums very active?

I joined for a year.   Haven't renewed.   Forums were active enough I suppose.   But I got tired of the bickering and infighting within the membership on them so I didn't renew.   It appears to be a real "good ole boy" network there and I just didn't want to bother.   There were some that were very helpful and others that were just plain arrogant pricks that were never wrong.   I get enough of that elsewhere (and I shouldn't have to pay for it!).    Perhaps in a few years, I may reconsider.
Cheers,
cc

Thanks for posting an honest opinion.  I considered joining – but I’ve never been much of a “joiner” of any clubs, etc – particularly ones where I cannot see discussion (or what I’m getting into).

To be honest, I have a great deal of appreciation for the people and their honesty who post right here.  I don’t see the “ego” and “posturing” that is so evident in some circles.  I believe that when I ask a question here, people who know will try and assist me – others who don’t know will listen in and learn.

Most places I post, I have far more knowledge to share and I chime in on subjects where I have practical experience and can help.  My participation here comes as a seasoned shooter / reloader, but still a I'm a rank amateur with regards to the .50 BMG.

Thank you to all of you who take the time to share your experience and do so in a kind and mentoring way.  It’s appreciate far more than you all know.

I'll probably wait till I buy another 50 before renewing my FCSA membership. Do like their magazine and do want to support their efforts to help keep these rifles legal.

I can't imagine those folks being our spokespeople for the BMG. For the most part, the folks in the forum are benchrest fudds and the membership is way oversold. It could be a good organization, but overall its a snooty group of match shooters from the west coast.

There is some decent information over there in the archives. Having a closed to public forum is what I think is their greatest mistake. They need to be inclusive.

I guarantee you that they would have more paying members if they opened their forum and didn't require memberships.

At least to read it, and pay to post.

If you want to shoot matches or just keep up with 50 BMG stuff, it's a good group.  Even though I sold my 50 BMG, I like the guys at Raton enough that I still attend the regional matches.  And they let me shoot one of my pop guns (338 Lapua or 308 WIN) unofficially to boot!

Good Group...just avoid the political BS.

Since the new editor took over, the VHP Magazine has gotten better and better.

I would encourage anyone with an interest in .50s to join FCSA.
yes, there are some abrasive personalities there, but hey, it's the internet.
Any newcomer gets all the respect he'd get on any of the normal gun forums, and a lot of free information
you can't find anywhere else.

As far as opening up the forums to non members, that's been discussed, but opens up the type of problems they have at biggerhammer.
Spam, and difficulty policing the boards.

All in all, it's a very worthwhile organization.
