What major contracts did Sig win besides the NGSW?  They seem to get more LE use than anything, with the majority of their mil contracts being for PDWs in 300BLK which seems to be the only thing they're really good at.  I wouldn't take the MCX as a standard service rifle over a 416, Bren 2, Haenel, SCAR, or much else for that matter.   Too many QC issues.

Also I wouldn't say the P90 is 'hardly' adopted.  It is VERY widely used in the LE segment.

What sucks about the MCX platform is all the generational changes they've made. I have a gen 1 rattler, gen 2 rattler and gen 2 5.56 SBR. It makes keeping spares around a PITA

The PS90 is really a cool carbine. If anything I wish FN offered a factory SBR. I wish they’d bring back the FS2000 too.

As for the scar, it’s unfortunate they are discontinuing it. The SCAR17 needs updating. The SCAR16 doesn’t really do anything better than a good AR, other than offer a folding stock. There are many other options now for folding stock 5.56.

This is why when it comes to buying FN firearms it’s always wise to stack the spare parts deep. I learned this from owning an FNC.

I hope we see commercial offering of the next generation of FN rifles. The IPC looks awesome.

As for Sig ExeTurd, the MCX has had so many teething problems and generational iterations. It still has a shit receiver-handguard interface. It still is made by ExeTurd with Indian MIM parts.

I disagree on the SCAR 16. It has been proven to be extremely durable at facilities like Battlefield Vegas who rent out FA versions and there is massive aftermarket for it compared to the other piston 5.56mm rifles due to the popularity of the 17S.

I think the 15p was poorly thought out and they could have just expanded the 16S line into other calibers. It was just a cash grab to get people to buy something new for the sake of completion.

I have a conversion Deadshot 300 BLK 16S barrel I think I might make a Cypher pistol for instance. Couple that with the Gen 4 Mototech Scarburator and you have a pretty cool 300 blk. Just waiting on someone to offer different spring weights, but the gas regulator should help. Maybe Deadshot will even step up and make a 338 ARC one day!

With regards to 5.56: Having spent $3200 for a 16 and another $1200 for a 10" barrel, my gripe with the 15 is that it was introduced so late. Could have spent about $1000 less (even after selling the 16" barrel), lived with the shorter barrel, and enjoyed the ability to return it to a pistol. During a few periods, the 15 has also been offered at blowout sub $2k pricing, about 20% less than Sig's Rattler MAP and far less than Rattlers are sold for regardless. It was also introduced when the Rattler was only 5.5" and Sig didn't lengthen the barrel until a year later, so the 15 hit the mark in the regard.

Look at it this way though, you paid extra for arguably the best 5.56 SCAR setup.

This is also comparing apples to oranges in a way, price-wise.  $3200 + $1200 is close to big box store MSRP for both the 16S and the barrel.  15P MSRP is about the same as the 16S at those stores, and you'd still need a stock, which would either be $300 for the Ugg or $620 for the SC.  And selling the 16" barrel would leave maybe ~$200 difference.

I'm on the verge of having both a 16S and 15P.  16S was $2700 last week and 15P was a ludicrous $1500 around LDW, and the latter was in stock for <30 minutes on a random weekday and barely advertised - blink and you'd have missed it.  I'll still end up SBRing the 16S even if it costs more because it's the ultimate practical config.  15P looks way cooler, but it's more of a range toy and flash/concussion grenade than anything else.

We are in complete agreement there! And I love it, with smaller gas jets, the extended travel behind the bolt catch, and the factory correct amount of bleed off from the suppressed setting, it is a great shooter suppressed or unsuppressed. It's a keeper and I don't feel the need to hoard spares either with their excellent reputation and my shooting schedule which is limited and spread across other platforms.

Very familiar with BFV’s experience with the SCAR. The SCAR 16s is a cool rifle. It’s very robust, particularly the bolt group. What I’m saying is that the delta between SCAR16 and quality contemporary M4 is very small. US SF still issues the URGI. And they have the SCAR-L in inventory.

The SVAR truly doesn’t offer anything significant over a quality contemporary M4. SOCOM had the ability to use the SCAR-L, but instead sidelined it because it didn’t offer anything over the M4 CQBR/URGI iterations.

I like the SCAR 16s. I own one, paid dearly for it in 2009 when the first production run was released right after Obama was elected, then bought a 10” barrel and SBRd it. While it’s novel, it’s just not any better than an AR and in many ways it’s worse. I have a fleet of spare parts for the AR/M4, while I have just a handful of spare parts for the SCAR. The recoil impulse is funky on the scar. Not more recoil, just a wonky high moment arm with slow bolt group motion. The short handguard is a killer too. Adding extensions with the potential for handguard flex, added weight is not ideal. The design was contemporary when most M4s had 7” KAC RAS railed handguards. It’s just a bit long in the tooth from a design standpoint.

Spare parts are the key. Now is the time to buy more spare parts while you can. FN should at least stack themselves with spares for us SCAR owners. I should be good to go given how much I work and as little as I shoot.

I love my SCAR 17, like my SCAR 16. Modern AR > Scar 16 in terms of handling and shootability. I would hedge my bet on the SCAR though for durability/reliability. I look at my SCAR 16 as what a modern AK should be, not as an AR replacement. For the SCAR 17, one must remember way back in the 2000s, we had nothing that could do what the SCAR 17 could do in 7.62x51. It’s arguably a better rifle than the first gen HK 417 that came out around the same time. Mine is from 2012, Belgian made. I never want to sell it.

Still inventorying my stash.

Ill add, I think the APC 223/308 is better than the SCAR platform, but parts are almost impossible to be had. Ive been squirreling away parts for over 12 years. Alot of it from MWG before FN got spooked with IAC and increased prices 3-4x, sons of bitches.

I still need a replacement FNH SCAR Buttstock Lock, Code: F148120020. Theyre impossible to find. I missed out on the Tango Down aluminum ones.

i forgot about the buttstock crap. That is really the Achilles heel of the platform, besides screws backing out of the rear trunion with use.

B&T APC 223/308 probably is nicer to shoot, but I have mostly seen just APC 9 parts. APC 223/308 parts are harder to come by on BT-Parts website. The other issue with the APC 223/308 design is how the trunion mates to the upper receiver. The SCAR is user servicable. The APC is not. The screws are red loc-tited into the receiver and trunion. B&T uses a special vise and wrench to take stuff down. They still refuse to give us an operators manual. At least I have all of those things with the SCAR.

I guess I will shoot the crap out of mine until they break. Back in 2012 when I bought my SCAR 17S, AR-10s were not as reliable as they are now. Now if I had to buy a new AR-10, I would have a litany of good choices, some of which I can buy spare parts for.

Dont get me wrong, I also have two POF Revolutions and an ACE Galil. Those are pretty awesome in their own ways too. POF sells parts too, so theyre user serviceable.

Im trading my LMT MARS-H piston gun for a 2nd SCAR 17. 2 lbs is a big deal to me.

Gents, I am a little late to the game here as I picked up a used 17s about a year ago.  It's an older reciprocating ch from Belgium.

It runs just fine and I do not have any operating issues.  As far as spare parts go, I have none.

What are the most common parts that go out? Where is a good place to purchase spare parts?

Thanks

Thats a loaded question. What is your firing schedule? Run a FRT, binary or otherwise beat the shit out of the gun with mag dumps? Youre gonna need a new barrel and recoil spring assembly eventually. If you convert and run a 6.5 barrel, the legacy bolt can fail I've heard, which is why they discontinued it and make (made, haha) a high pressure version, including upgraded firing pin.

Suppressed fire with a high back pressure can will Crack the bolt carrier and deformed the back plate screws. There are upgrades to mitigate that. $$$

I will disagree with you. I have both SCAR 16 and a APC 556, and I will say the SCAR 16 is the better rifle over all. Slightly more accurate, lightweight, handles and balances much better. It is at the point that my APC 556 doesn't even see much use as the SCAR 16 is what I grab in front of it. Not to say the B&T is bad, it isn't. I am also a big B&T fanboy, but I will say that if I didn't SBR the B&T, it probably wouldn't be in my collection any longer.

SCAR 16 > APC 556.

Also, I don't own a APC308, but my buddy does. We both agree that my SCAR 17 shoots better and again, handles and balances better. The B&T fail at that part as well as the overall weight. SCAR is still undefeated. Swiss come close, but can't dethrone the king.

The bolt doesn’t fail. It can pierce primers though. FN will give you a new HP bolt and firing pin if you send in your rifle.

A SCAR is one of the few platforms where the gun is so durable I'm not too upset about not having spare parts and will keep shooting it.  Ron from BFV said the SCARs and the Benelli M4 are by far the most durable guns.  I think on the SCAR it was maybe a recoil spring and barrel they had to replace after it was shot out, and maybe a busted trigger.

You got a 17 and they have a pretty crazy barrel life.  Unless you're shooting a lot you'll never shoot out a 17S barrel.  I think they're rated for 32k rounds or something like that ON FULL AUTO.  With semi-auto you can probably get about 40k out of them.

All you really need IMO is a recoil spring and buffer, firing pin, and bolt head.

Its a pencil barrel. FA will cook it and you'll lose a shit ton of accuracy.

I wish they'd made a heavy profile version. You can get ones slightly heavier from deadshot, but it won't be nitride treat let alone CL/CHF

My brother isn't going to take the time to make an account and jump through all those hoops.

Oh well... I guess I'll just hope they come back in stock someday.

P90 is still used pretty heavily.  I'd like to see sources saying it isn't.

And yeah the MCX makes sense as a 300BLK rifle.  But there are many rifles that are just generally better than it in 5.56 flavor.  Sig QC is not great.
