FN's marketing indicates that the FNAR is for the police market. What other semi-auto precision rifles are out there in this niche?

H&K continues to produce the MSG90 series in extremely limited numbers and has ceased production of the PSG1. They were both in the catalog up until very recently, but few if any were actually made/shipped/sold. H&K has pretty much gotten away from roller-locked weapons, including the MP5. Both the USMC, FBI and other agencies purchased MSG90's and a few PSG1's. H&K also made the 770 series which was a HK91/G43 type hybrid but these are long since out of production.... H&K's primary DMR is the 417.
DPMS, Armalite, KAC, RRA and others all market AR-10 type rifles in a variety of calibers to both military and LE agencies. DPMS, Armalite and KAC rifles are in use by a number of military and LE agencies. The AR10 platform is by far the best semi-automatic DMR type rifle availible. DSA also markets accurized STG58's/FAL's which could perform the DMR task. However, these are quite expensive and a massive amount of engineering is required to make them sufficiently accurate, more so than other MBR/DMR conversions. SA offers both the M21 and M25 which are both accurized M14 type rifles. IMI also produced accurized variants of the Galil known as the Galatz and a sporting rifle called the Hadar. The Galatz was used by IDF and US military forces and atleast two US LE agencies. This should be the majority of the relevant 7.62x51 semi-automatic DMR type rifles. |
