I've started downsizing my C&Rs and want to get rid of my FN49. It's an Egyptian model, with an aftermarket scope and mount. Whats a reasonable price to ask? And what can you tell me about this rifle? Pics changed to links

I can't see your pictures, but $450 is a good midpoint price for an FN49 , They were made in Belgium for post war Egypt. They are great shooting rifles but were obsolete the day they came out due to the magazine design. (IMHO)
FN had better success with it's replacement, the FAL. |

the century reworked ones usually have a newer looking stock and a plastice buttplate. Some have exhibited a refurb metal look, more grey than blue.
Nice rifles when they work right. I had a real 8mm model and always wanted one, but could never get the thing to be reliable. Finally sold it for $400. |
You even got the mandatory toes in the picture. Nice !
http://img690.imageshack.us/i/img0292rj.jpg/ Put it up on gunbroker with a $399 reserve/starting price. To each his own, but I would never sell mine. It's M1 Garand reliable and accurate. Then again I have 1000's of rounds of 8mm stockpiled so that adds more value to me for mine. |

A replacement stock will be missing the coin on the side, and the replacement wood handguards are attached with aluminum rivets that are not covered up like the ones in the OP's pic. They may have a plastic buttplate, but sometimes the brass one is re-used from the original stock. The OP's gun has original wood, except where the missing coin has been filled in. Yes, the Egyptian ones are chambered for 8x57mm mauser. CAI and 7.92 is electropenciled on the bottom of the barrel near the muzzle. I don't know whether the added scope mount and muzzle device add or detract from the value. Did the receiver or cover get drilled & tapped for the scope mount? 55_grain |
I'll check that when I get home tonight. I fired off the last 10 rounds I had for it today. And Im starting to like it Soo...best place for 8mm ammo and what kinda tools/accessories do I need to keep her running smooth. And will a bayonet still fit with that brake on the end? In case I run outta ammo again

AIM surplus has Romanian 8mm; that's what I've been using for blasting ammo. Assume it's corrosive. The only tool I have for it is an 8mm bore brush...and ammo. I don't know about the bayonet. Buy more ammo and you won't need to do the bayonet charge. 55_grain |
