Anyone have one? Likes. Dislikes?
Looking at the short barrel PBRs... |
| A couple of the guys I shoot with have the PBR and both are solid platforms shooting sub moa. I stepped up and got the SPR and it is shooting about half moa at 800m. When it warms up a little, I plan to stretch out to 1000 and expect good results as long as I can do my part and get a good load. |

Excellent rifles and IMHO one of the best barrels available in a production rifle. My 20" TSR XP will shoot .5 with both 168 GMM and 175 GMM. I also prefer a patrol length .308 bolt. The Winchester action is also an excellent action and I prefer the controlled ejection also. I also find that my bolt appears to lock in tighter than on my 700P... I have also found them to be more consistent out of the box when it comes to accuracy.
Downside is slightly less aftermarket parts available but it seems to be growing by the day. CDI is the place for DBM and both Manners and McMillian offer a nice selection of stocks. |

I know that Hogue supplies the stock on the PBR. The short 16 & 18 inch models. Does the hogue from FN have aluminum bedding blocks? yes, both on mine do. One 16" FN PBR with brake, and the other 24" FN PBR-XP. Great rifles! PBR does 1/2" - 5/8" 2 100 yds when I do my part. PBR-XP can do the same at 200 yds! Factory rifle, with factory ammo that can shoot 1/2" at 200 yds. I'd say the FN's bolt guns are worth it. |
| I owned an FN SPR a1a. That is the SPR with unfluted 20 inch barrel. It was a heavy SOB but was a consistent .5-.75 MOA shooter with FGMM 168's. The action was pretty smooth and it was a softy to shoot. The only real complaint I had was the trigger being too heavy for my liking out of the box. |

I did adjust it down a little, but below maybe 3.5 lbs it wouldn't pass a drop test. I had to sell it to do some traveling before I was able to buy a nice trigger. |

Anyone have a total barrel length with the brake on the PBR-16? From what I saw by using google it should be 18" overall barrel length with muzzle brake. About 38" overall. ETA: Link to an EE sale here... http://ee.ar15.com/ItemView.aspx?iid=37165 |

Not 100% sure on the new/current models. If my memory serves, I believe the high $$ FN bolt guns use McM. stocks. Also if I remember correct I heard of some PBR's that were sold off to CDN (as bare actions olnly) and some people where saying CDN used the non-full length bedding block style Hogues. |

Anyone have / shot the 16" .308? I am interested in that, I love the short barrel, as I rarely do more then 200-300 yards. Makes for a nice compact deergun even. But, is it a decent weapon? Yes, they are great shooters, I have one of the 16" barreled versions with brake (barrel length does not inculde brake). I think FNH may have discontiued this version. |

To anyone with the older factory two peice scope bases. My 16" PBR came with those....
Crap, pure crap. They where out of spec and I could never properly zero the scope. I call Bob A at FNH-USA and he said "yes, they do indeed suck, I'll send you out a single peice one to replace them." He sent it out free of charge, not bad for a NEAR MFG. base that retails for $150-$200. Zeroed right up and shoots, when I do my part, 1/2" to 5/8" groups at 100 yards. FNH changed during the production run to NEAR's single peice mounts. I can't remember is they are sloped for longer range, I believe they are. the 16" w/Brake is about 18" total barrel length. It's a bull barrel, but in that length still light enough for carry in the woods or... The Portland PD sold off thier Rem 700 LTR's and longer 24" police versions and switched to the 16" /brake PBR. Since almost all poice shootings are short distance the little loss of velocity was minimal, but the weight savings make up for it after you run up a few dozen floors compared to the 24" Rem 700 Police. |

It doesn't include the brake? That was a huge turn off for me as I love to suppress things. I'd better call CDNN. They're sold out. |

So that means $$ to rethread it. sucks. |

FN Confirmed a mag issues does exist for pre-2010 guns in feeding the last round and new mag part # 626-14-01 is supposed to correct the issue with a stronger spring.
However, based on how few people seem to have this issue, I find it hard to believe all pre 2010 mfg guns suffer from this issue. Esp, since I think most were mfg before 2010. Anyway, if the new mag works for my buddy, maybe sell his old one cheap on here to someone who has a pre 2010 gun and no issues running the original mag. |

FN PBR XP. I can get .75 MOA out of it.
